Office of the People's Council Secretary-General, Linan, Capital of the Democratic Union of Aviye
Minister Yun was an ambitious woman.
Of that, she made no secret. She'd campaigned to become Secretary-General on a wave of post-war promises but had ultimately been set aside for a more popular candidate.
Shan Xiaoli was voted in by the Council, and in retrospect, Yun could accept being defeated by her. Xiaoli had managed much of the Rebellion's food and supply situations. She had a vast network of political allies and a charisma Yun envied.
But in the end, it was Shan Xiaoli's appreciation of the peasant farmers who she worked with that made her the right choice. Yun had come from middling privilege. She'd grown up exposed to both the elite and the poor, but part of neither. Shan Xiaoli had come from the bottom of Aviyan society, and now sat at the top. She was the embodiment of Mea's philosophy that one should work for the sake of humanity without desire for fame or reward.
