I flipped over to the next page before realizing it was almost 2am, 1:49 to be exact.
I hadn't finished my assignment and it was due first thing tomorrow morning. I was busy reading a new book... a romance novel ' of course'. I got it just today and I'm already gone by half the book, I guess I was a little bit too excited, new book and all.
Now I had to spend all night trying to finish this essay on "the historical background of Socrates" like that's somehow gonna help me in future.
I rolled my eyes at the thought of how knowing what Plato and his friends had fun in their time is gonna be some kind of life skill. '
Is this philosophy class or something?
the professor says it's for our "vocabulary workshop" or something.
'well it is necessary, I am a literature major after all' I said to myself hoping that would strengthen my resolve to finish this assignment.
I put the book down and headed to my desk. Took out my laptop and started.
"I could finish by 4am, then take a quick power nap, then wake up by 6:30 and get ready" I whispered to myself
I had already made a rough draft of how I wanted the essay to look so all I had to do was clean it up a bit.
This is how it is for me most of the time
Last time I was barley able to turn my assignment in because I only remembered when I had already got to class so I spent the whole time rushing to finish up. Still got a C tho, pretty decent grade for a last minute assignment if you asked me.
"I'm done and it's 3:14, lucky me"
My schedule for classes tomorrow runs till 4pm so I don't have that much free time.
sounds hectic huh? well that's how it is for us freshmen. Better pick out what I'll wear before I go to bed, makes things easier in the morning.

My next class isn't for the next two hours and it's almost noon
"I'm kinda hungry too" I mumbled.
'first I'll head to the cafeteria then after brunch I'll head to the cafe for some dessert and coffee, then study a little, by then it'll be time for class'
I was walking past the business department when I saw a figure at the corner of my eye.
I had to take off my earphones so I could see properly 'like my hearing affects my eyes'.
I got a good look, it's a guy, he's sitting there.
Behind block 3 there's a curved bench there, two curved benches actually, with a huge table between them, they're kind of opposite each other but not really... they're around the table, you get the picture. you might wonder why I'm blabbing and describing a random sit out for students. well that isn't just any random sit out, it is the most avoided place on campus.
That place is usually deserted, cos there were some rumors that a guy and his childhood friend got into a huge fight because of a girl. There are different versions of the story but this is the most common one. The friend ended up in the ICU and the other one took a year off to look after his friend at the hospital after being suspended.
they ended up forgiving each other and came back to school but people say that since then, only bad things have here, like breakups, injuries, you get bad news, they say you might get bad luck of you stay here too long.
So after all that happened people avoid it so diligently, except for me though. I don't really believe in all that bs plus it's in a really nice quiet location and no one ever bothers me there so I go there a lot.
But there's a person there... a real person.
"it's my first time seeing anyone sit there, besides me that is"
people usually don't even go near it, that's why it's my favorite place to relax and read my novels.
"That's my spot" I said pouting, I felt a little upset but he probably won't come back once he hears about the rumors so I could have my my spot back "hehe". I smiled to myself as I continued walking.
I got a text from Evie, I hadn't seen her all morning and she wasn't in class
"where are you!?"
"that's what I'm supposed to ask you tho"
"seriously, where are you?"
"at the Cafe, the one near the cafeteria"
"okay don't move! I'm on my way"
Judging from her tone I bet she's gonna have a lot to say. Evie is a very free spirited person. We first met in middle school and became friends, we've known each other ever since.
After a while she was here and came straight to exactly where I was and sat down on the chair opposite me.
"How'd you know where I would sit?" I asked, not shocked
"last seat away from the windows at the end of the cafe" she pulled my plate of chocolate cake toward herself
"huh" I said as I pulled it back
"this is exactly the kind of gloomy corners you always sit in"
"excuse you, people don't usually walk all the way here so it's the more comfortable for me"
"sure" she said, ever so smugly
"sup, I haven't seen you all day"
"ugh don't even get me started, yesterday was a mess" She rolled her eyes back
"wow, your date... was he that bad?"
"bad?? oh honey he was amazing"
"Then what's the issue?" I asked confused
"we went for drinks after and got fucked up, I don't even remember how I got home yesterday"
"...oh"
"I look like crap right?" she looked at the little mirror she took out of her bag and applied some lip gloss
"you look pretty amazing to me"
"Really?" she fumble with her hair a bit
"yup"
"and I woke up with this terrible headache this morning, I was so hung over I barely made it out of bed"
"well that's what you get for going on a blind date and drink after on a Tuesday night" I took a sip from my cup
"tell me about it"
...
...
"... you'll stare a hole through my head"
"can I have some? please?"
"go buy your own cake"
"but I got no money" She whimpered
"...'sigh' fine."
"you know I love you so m--"
"finish up quickly you have class in like 20 minutes"
#aww" she pouted
"you can have the rest of my coffee too"
"yay"
she moved over to the seat next to me and we were talking about her date when she suddenly stopped talking, she was staring at something, or someone, I turned to look and saw Seth and his "crew". he smiled and waved at her but she was in no mood to smile back, they started coming this way
"oh God" I whispered under her breath
"Tell me about it"
"pack up so we can leave"
"but I haven't finished the cake yet"
"then finish!"
"hey there Evie" Seth said, looking at her
"hello" she replied without even glancing in his direction for a second
"you look beautiful today as well"
"I know"
"cocky as ever I see", he run his hand through the tips of her hair, I felt a shiver go down my spine
"that's one of your charms I absolutely like"
she swatted his hand away and started picking her stuff up
"who's your friend" one of the other guys said
"that, is none of your business, let's go Rue"
"so her name is Rue? I'm Hudson by the way"
"we have class now so we'll be leaving"
we were almost at the door when he called my name, I turned
"see you around" he said smiling softly
"have a good day" he mouthed
'he's kinda good looking' I randomly thought to myself
I turned to leave when someone walked passed me, his cologne smelled amazing
"Mm, smells so nice" I mumbled not realizing I said that out loud. I stood there dazed for a while before I heard Evie calling out to me and I ran outside to meet her and we left together.
_____
he got a seat in the cafe and a waiter came to take his order
"she thinks I smell nice" he chuckled
"pardon?" the waiter said
"oh nothing, I'd like a ..."
Hudson stared at him for a long while then turned to his friends.
