Synopsis
I fell in love with the one man my family was never supposed to forgive. He was the son of my father’s greatest enemy—the kind of enemy whose name was spoken in our house like a curse. Loving him was dangerous. Telling my father was even more dangerous. So I lied. For months, we met in secret. In his arms, I found the happiness I had never known. He became my escape, my comfort, my reason to smile. But while I was protecting our love, my father was making plans of his own. One day, he asked if there was someone in my life. I said no. Then he told me he had already chosen my husband. I swallowed my truth and obeyed. On my wedding night, the man I married destroyed whatever innocence I had left. And as the nightmare continued, one thought haunted me: I should have told my father everything.

Chapter 1 - THE BOY I WAS FORBIDDEN TO LOVE

My father had only three rules in our house.

Never lie to him.

Never embarrass the family.

And never, under any circumstance, get close to the family of the man he hated most.

I broke all three.

The first two happened slowly.

The third happened with a smile.

His name was Adrian.

I first saw him on a rainy afternoon when I was twenty-three. I had gone to a small café across town to escape the suffocating atmosphere of my father's house. I wanted an hour where nobody knew my name, nobody watched where I went, and nobody reminded me that I was the daughter of a man whose reputation could silence an entire room.

I was sitting by the window, stirring an untouched cup of coffee, when someone suddenly stopped beside my table.

"Excuse me."

I looked up.

He was tall, well dressed, and carrying a black umbrella dripping rainwater onto the floor. His hair was slightly wet, and there was something strangely calm about his eyes.

"Yes?"

"Can I sit here? Everywhere else is occupied."

I glanced around.

There were at least three empty tables.

I raised an eyebrow.

He smiled.

"Okay," he admitted. "That's a lie. I just wanted an excuse to talk to you."

I should have walked away.

Instead, I laughed.

That was how it started.

A laugh.

One conversation.

One cup of coffee.

And a secret that would eventually destroy my life.

We talked for almost two hours that day.

He didn't ask who my father was. He didn't care about my family's money or reputation. He didn't even seem impressed when I accidentally mentioned the expensive car waiting outside for me.

He simply looked at me and said, "You don't seem like someone who enjoys being watched."

I stared at him.

"How did you know?"

"Because you keep looking at the door."

I smiled faintly.

"Maybe I'm waiting for someone."

"Your boyfriend?"

"No."

"Your husband?"

I laughed.

"Definitely not."

He smiled.

"Then maybe I have a chance."

I didn't know it then, but that conversation would become one of my favorite memories.

Because months later, when everything was falling apart, I would close my eyes and remember that rainy afternoon.

I would remember how free I had felt.

How happy.

How stupidly in love.

I didn't know his family name until our third meeting.

Adrian Blackwood.

The moment he said it, the smile disappeared from my face.

Blackwood.

I felt the blood drain from my body.

"My father…" I whispered.

He frowned. "What about your father?"

"What's your father's name?"

His expression changed.

"Richard Blackwood."

My heart stopped.

For years, my father's hatred for Richard Blackwood had been part of our family history. Their feud had started long before I was born. I had heard stories about betrayal, ruined businesses, lost fortunes, and promises of revenge.

My father had once told me, If you ever see a Blackwood, walk away.

And there I was.

Sitting across from one.

Adrian noticed my silence.

"You know my family?"

"Everyone knows your family."

His eyes narrowed.

"And yours?"

I didn't answer.

He suddenly understood.

"Who are you?"

I stood.

"I have to go."

"Wait."

But I was already walking away.

I thought that would be the end.

It wasn't.

The next evening, Adrian was waiting outside the café.

The evening after that, he was there again.

Then he started leaving handwritten notes with the café owner.

I'm sorry.

I should have told you sooner.

Please give me one chance to explain.

I refused to see him.

For two weeks.

Then, one night, I found myself standing across from him beneath a streetlight.

"You should stay away from me," I whispered.

"I've tried."

"Try harder."

He stepped closer.

"Why?"

"Because my father hates your family."

"And?"

"And if he finds out about us, he will destroy you."

Adrian smiled sadly.

"Then don't tell him."

I looked at him.

"You don't understand my father."

"Maybe I don't."

He reached for my hand but stopped before touching me.

"But I understand how I feel about you."

Those words broke something inside me.

I should have walked away.

Instead, I took his hand.

That was the moment I knew I was in trouble.

We began dating in secret.

No photographs.

No public meetings.

No messages when I was at home.

We used fake names in each other's phones.

We met in quiet restaurants, empty parks, and places where nobody knew either of us.

For the first time in my life, I felt like I was living for myself.

Adrian made me laugh.

He listened when I spoke.

He remembered the smallest things about me.

When I was sad, he didn't tell me to be strong.

He simply stayed.

And slowly, dangerously, he became my source of joy.

But happiness has a cruel habit of making you forget that it can disappear.

I forgot.

Until the day my father asked me a question.

We were having dinner when he suddenly put down his fork.

"Are you seeing someone?"

My heart slammed against my ribs.

I looked at him.

"No."

The lie came easily.

Too easily.

My father studied my face for several seconds.

Then he smiled.

Not a warm smile.

A smile that made something cold crawl down my spine.

"Good."

He picked up his glass.

"Because I've found someone for you."

My fingers tightened around my napkin.

"Someone?"

"Your future husband."

The room suddenly felt smaller.

I swallowed hard.

And for the first time, I wondered if keeping my secret had been the biggest mistake of my life.
