Chapter 323 - Book 12: Part 4 – A New Overgod

Aiden explained that originally, when the universe was first created, all eleven Overgods could be considered to be unconscious spirits that simply governed their respective elements, but as humans and various other creatures were born and eventually learnt to harness the powers of the seven elements they would also, by extension start generating faith for each of the seven elemental Overgods.

For unconscious spirits like the Overgods were at the time, faith was like a tonic. Enough faith could allow them to mature and eventually awaken. Unfortunately, before the seven elemental spirits could garner enough faith to truly awaken, a change slowly started to take place.

At the time, the vast majority of those able to cultivate were born with an affinity to one of the seven elements, but eventually, a select few would be born with an affinity to one of the four edicts, and because cultivation was still very much in its embryonic stage and there was so much yet to be understood, those born with such rare affinities were dubbed as chosen ones.

Because of that, the Overgods of the four edicts started garnering faith at a much faster pace than those of the seven elements, and eventually, they were able to finish maturing, and although they hadn't gained full consciousness which would allow them to move around freely like they very much wish to, they were able to actively communicate with the various mortals and deities of the universe.

It was at that point that the faith garnered for the Overgods of the seven elements all but came to a complete stop, causing their progress to virtually stagnate.

But that all changed almost 1500 years ago after Aiden came up with the path of concepts. His doing so managed to pierce the consciousness of the Overgod of Wind, even more so after he regained his elemental affinity.

In the last 1500 years, whilst Aiden was in a trance, he was actually in direct communication with the spirit of the Overgod of Wind; it was through their communication that he was able to bring his comprehension of both the Laws and Concept of Wind to the Paragon level.

When he said that, everyone present looked at Aiden in complete and utter disbelief. Still, it was what he said next that really shocked them to their core.

Aiden explained that in the next hundred thousand years or so, the Overgods of the Four Edicts would truly wake up. At which point, the seven elemental Overgods would forever lose their chance to awaken.

It was because of that that the still very immature spirit of the Overgod of Wind decided to take a risk. It decided that it would use what little power it had accumulated to form the universe's first Overgod Spark for Aiden to merge with; as for its spiritual consciousness, Aiden said it would merge with his glaive.

Everyone stood speechless at Aiden, including Ace and Arianna, the two people most used to Aiden's shocking feats. He had just declared that he would become the Overgod of Wind.

Before they could get over their shock, Aiden explained that had it not been for the fact that he was about to re-enter isolation to become an Overgod, he would've headed to the Netherworld himself. Unfortunately, he was stepping into unknown territory – he had no idea of knowing how long the breakthrough would take, and he needed to break through before the Overgods of the Four Edicts awoke.

Beirut laughed hysterically when he finally heard that. Although he was a little jealous that he wasn't the one becoming an Overgod, he had to admit; there was no one better suited than Aiden; he was a genius the likes of which he had never seen before. Still, the good news was that even if Augusta rejected Ace's request to let him free of his "imprisonment," as soon as Aiden finished his breakthrough, he would be free!

Ace then curiously asked what about the other six elemental Overgods, would they be willing to make the same choice.

Knowing that Ace was asking specifically about the Overgod of Fire, Aiden hesitated slightly before eventually going on to tell his disciple the truth about what the Overgod of Wind had told him about Ace.

According to the Overgod of Wind, Ace's very existence was like something of a parasite in the universe. According to the Overgod, Ace's existence in the universe and, by extension, the existence of his bloodline shouldn't exist.

Although, for Aiden's sake, it was willing to overlook Ace's existence, it wasn't sure the other Overgods would be willing to do the same, and even if they were able to look the other way like the Overgod of Wind, the chances of them being willing to form an Overgod Spark for Ace was virtually 0.

Ace knew that his master was telling the truth. He knew he wasn't from this universe, and although he had no idea how he had been reborn here, he knew full well that there was nothing natural about his reincarnation. The barrier around his soul that prevented him from sensing the laws of nature was just one such example. Still, he couldn't help but sigh in disappointment.

Seeing Ace's face, Aiden smiled as he continued. He explained that although the Overgod of Wind didn't know the exact method and couldn't help him much, what it did know was that Ace, as a parasite, the restrictions that prevented others from deities from becoming Sovereigns on their own and Sovereigns from becoming Overgods, didn't apply to him.

It couldn't tell Ace the method, but what it could say was that it had something to do with his bloodlines.

Ace couldn't help but focus on the word "bloodlines". He knew his master well enough to know that he wouldn't make a mistake like pluralising a word for no reason. It meant that his path to becoming a Sovereign and eventually an Overgod would be possible, not just with his Gol bloodline, but the combination of it along with Amira's Viz bloodline.

He then remembered what happened when he used his Willpower to enhance his Viz bloodline, and a smile found its way onto his face.

It was then that Aiden dropped another bomb on his disciple's lap. He explained that in the future, when the Overgods of the Four Edicts awoke, their first order of business would inevitably be to destroy him and rid the universe of his presence.

Ace smiled fiendishly at that. He had just come to terms with the fact that he would likely be pitting himself against Muyan – the universe's strongest deity – in the not-so-distant future, and then, by extension, Phueus, the Chief Sovereign of Darkness, and now there would also be four Overgods coming for his head.

Most would be fraught with fear at the thought of just one of these entities, but Ace found his blood pumping faster than usual as his heart thrummed with excitement.

Reaching the apex of this universe would only be fun if there was at least this much of a challenge.

Still, his first order of business, aside from becoming a paragon of both paths, of course, was to figure out the method of becoming a Sovereign. He had no idea what the method was; he wasn't even remotely close, but as long as there was a method to be found, he would find it, and no one would stop him – not even an Overgod.

Seeing Ace's reaction, Aiden smiled. If there was one thing that he appreciated about his disciple, aside from his talent, it was his unyielding will.

Still, that was only part of what he wanted to do today. Next, he turned his attention to Kannal and explained that upon becoming a paragon of both paths, the Overgod of Wind rewarded him with two treasures to aid him in his breakthrough to become an Overgod.

With a wave of his hand, he took out two drops of silverish-white liquid. As they hovered in the air, space seemed to bend and warp around them.

He explained that they were called "Empyrean Sky Essence." Once ingested, it would permanently boost the power of one's spiritual essence and wind-type divine power tenfold. Still, that was only secondary; the biggest benefit would come in the boost of affinity to the laws of wind. It would allow Kannal's affinity to the law of wind to become as monstrous as Ace, Amira's, and Killian's own respective affinities.

And because it only worked the first time one ingested it, there was no point in him having both, and seeing as he was about to venture into the Netherworld on what could very well be a life-threatening adventure, it was only right he gave the second drop to him.

Looking at the drop of Empyrean Sky Essence, Kannal felt his Divine Spark hum with excitement. The moment it landed before him, he directly swallowed it and entered a trance-like state. As his Divine Power and soul evolved, his soul was continuously bombarded by wave after wave of insights.

Seeing Kannal begin his transformation, Aiden had Ace and Osiris come at him together.

At his current level, Aiden's level of Glaivesmanship had reached an otherworldly level compared to those around him. The difference was so large that he was able to easily spot and attack the weak points of both Ace and Osiris' weapon arts at the same time, allowing them to see meteoric growth.
