Chapter 3 - CHAPTER 2

Alexander left Iris's place in both a confused and angered state. His sister was proving to be quite a handful and very relentless when it came to trying to hook him up with her best friend. Thinking of her best friend, Ariadne Luthor, the sexiest woman he'd ever met. Even in her pajamas and chocolates smeared on her cheeks, she still looked appealing. He didn't even realize that he'd smiled when he recalled the look on her face when she'd realized that it was him.

He was sure that she was unaware of his sister's plan to call him to her house and create a chance for them to meet because if she'd known, she would have been the perfect Miss. Luthor. Perfect make up, neat hair, white dresses. She was never not neat, everything had to be a certain way. She was always organized and for the first time in what seemed like forever, he'd seen her not. Today she was dressed in another color apart from white. It suddenly made her feel more real and less pretentious.

What Alexander didn't know and would never realize until it was far too late was that she had tried to be everything she'd thought he'd ever wanted. She'd tried to be just like her, Elleana Thompson, the woman he'd met when he'd left but it was clearly all for naught because he still didn't like her. And she would never realize that he preferred the her that he'd known before he'd left. Vibrant, full of mischief and rather short tempered. But now she was simply too perfect, too innocent which was simply not her. At least not the her that he previously knew.

Unintentionally, his mind went back to that fateful night. All he could remember was the feel of her skin against the palms of his hands. So soft, and her long silky-smooth hair grazing his skin. Their hot breaths intermingled and the amorous look in her eyes. He knew it was Scarlett and so he tried, desperately to stop before going any further, but he just couldn't. He'd been attracted to her when they were younger, teenagers, but when he'd met Elleana, he'd thought that it was just a passing fancy but, on this night, even the thought of her could not hold him back. Did he really like Ella as much as he thought? But he simply couldn't resist the impulse in his body to make her his. His blood was boiling hot, and her touch made him feel a relief he longed for.

As he thought about this, he drew the conclusion that it was just because he was yet to make love to Elleana and that's why he could fall into Scarlett's trap so easily. Was he deluding himself? He hoped not because in his mind, Scarlett was just a beauty with no brains. At best she could only be a glorified trophy wife. Besides that, his friends liked Elleana and even better, he liked her. She was innocent and sweet without the evil and pretentious nature of Scarlett.

He shook his head to get rid of the memories then took his phone and dialed his sister as he got into his car, signaled the chauffeur and had the Rolls Royce drive off.

Iris on the other hand was in a great mood as she left her restaurant. She even had a slight bounce to her step. She decided to go for shopping to give more time for her brother and best friend. Just thinking about those two getting together left her in a giddy mood. Aah... they could finally be real sisters instead of mere sworn ones. She almost wanted to skip, and she would have if it weren't for her age. Her parents would also be incredibly excited especially her mother who'd always loved Scarlett like her own. Not to mention that their parents were good friends. Their brother's on the other hand... Well, that was a different matter altogether.

But she didn't know about the fateful encounter between her bestie and brother. If that didn't get them together, then nothing ever would. On seeing her brother's call, she giggled to herself and sent a message informing him that she couldn't pick calls but that he should wait for her as she wouldn't be long. Then she proceeded with her shopping without any worries, certain that her two close people were hanging out together, waiting for her.

Meanwhile, Scarlett was back at Iris's place trying to design new jewelry, The First Love series. This new design was her personal work. Her company had designers, so she didn't do the work herself, but she loved design. It had always been her way of bringing her feelings and emotions to life. She tried so hard but apparently, she wasn't in the right frame of mind. Her mind kept drifting back to that night. Why didn't she remember much about it? All she could recall was that she'd received a call informing her that Alex would be at a banquet she'd refused attendance to, and like the hopeless and foolish romantic she was, she didn't even confirm the news before she left for the said banquet. A waiter had approached her with a wine glass after she'd walked in, and she'd taken it. If she wasn't mistaken, her glass was kept full most of the night as she'd mingled among the guests while trying to find an opportunity to talk to Alexander. Thinking up to this point, she was really foolish. For a woman who prided herself on her intelligence, she was a disappointment.

Then an accident happened, and her dress got stained with red wine. It was a pretty big stain, and she was dressed in white, her luck be damned. One of the waiters then led her to a room to change with an apology and left to find her another dress to change into. And that's when she heard some movement in the bathroom and tried to excuse herself. She had no idea it was already occupied. There were far too many people in this banquet for anyone to try and play tricks, so she didn't suspect foul play. Besides, her family was well-known and their power in the business industry was well-known. On trying the door, it was locked, from the outside. And that's when panic struck. She had no idea who was on the other side of the bathroom door, and she didn't really want to find out. All she wanted was to leave the room.
