Jaegar did not move. The purple mist still surrounded him, and lightning continued to flicker across his skin.
"Stay down," he said quietly. "If you want to live."
Ewen, stubborn and angry, rose to his feet anyway. He began to cast another spell, but his hands were shaking with fatigue and pain.
Before the magic could form properly, Jaegar moved. He was incredibly fast—so fast that Ewen barely saw him move. One moment, Jaegar stood across the pavilion; the next, he was directly in front of Ewen with his hand raised.
Then he released a controlled pulse of lightning.
It was not meant to kill, just to stun and disable. The electricity struck Ewen like a physical blow, and the young arcanyte crumpled to the ground, unconscious.
The purple mist around Jaegar faded.
He stood there, breathing heavily, staring down at his fallen classmate with a blank expression. He didn't feel any emotion towards him; thing he wondered was why he was stubbornly attacking him.
