I walked up onto the stage, nervous yes but i couldn't show that not with everyone staring. i hopped onto the stage and went over to Mr matthew.
"what's your name"
"i'm james i mumbled"
okay james, now who wants to spar with james, everyone looked around confused.
"oh i didn't mention? it's going to be a one on one format, the dean is going to be here too so give it your all"
now you there, pointing to dennis as if my luck couldn't get any worse, dennis was top 5 in my class, he wasn't an elementalist but he was strong, absurdly strong for someone who didn't talk much.
"yes you, come over here, now this is going to be safe so don't worry, you'll both head into the arena and there's a protective shield to keep your attacks from being controlled, the rules are simple, if you think you've lost tap out and the match would be concluded, now proceed.
we both entered into the arena, could feel eyes staring at me, probably out of pity. everyone knew i wasn't strong enough to match dennis.
"ring" now start.
i couldn't move, fear? no, more like shock.
dennis walked towards me, then suddenly he vanished, teleportation was something i didn't expect then just like that i felt a crushing force on my chest, threw me the whole arena. "What was that" then i see dennis standing right at the spot i was wondering why his teleportation is instant, how could i have missed him materializing before he landed a blow then it clicks, speed.
It was never teleportation he's just that fast i couldn't track him, how do i fight someone i can't even see.
Before i'm done processing my thoughts he vanishes again, i quickly get up but i get hit back down with a great force i get barraged with punches, not lethal but i doubt i can take much more of this, amidst the pain i focus my qi on my fists as much as i can muster, i throw my fists as hard as i can and thankfully land a blow it pushes dennis back, he still stands on his feet but he acknowledges the strength after all i'm not a total loser i'm still equally as strong not just nearly as fast. Now im pissed but i smile, he flinched wondering why i'm smiling, now that i know it's speed not teleportation i can stop focusing on wondering where's he gonna appear i switch to other factors like wind displacement and the ground vibrations, he vanished again but this time i'm adapting, i feel his feet hitting the ground although i can't place them i feel the distance of the vibration and the direction and just about as he's about the attack from the side i dodge and plummet a blow down on him, he goes down, i use that time to give myself distance and he gets up again with a look of pure surprise worn on his face, i don't blame him, i can't believe it myself, he's obviously not on my level so why do i still push myself to fight but i'm happy now it's more even and it goes on like this he tries to use his speed and it keeps failing and he keeps taking blows to the face and body not even hitting me once, now he's angry too angry, he's bleeding, wondering why he hasn't tapped out yet he spits out blood and i feel a sudden pressure, what is this i mutter, i feel it, it's qi but dense and thick he vanished again, thought to myself why he kept doing the same thing even though it doesn't work, i read the vibrations and felt it coming from in front of me, planning to strike something unusual happened just when the vibration got to the front of me i got struck hard from the back, i could barely stand.
i was perplexed, what happened, i felt him in front of me and got hit from the back what just happened, he got faster and stronger, how's that even possible. leveling up mid fight, never heard of it, now was not the time to chase fairy tales because i was about to fight for my life, he has an unusual blood lust i couldn't match all of a sudden, lunging at me, using flash step in a second while on his top speed, i couldn't fathom what was going on and then i got hit again, i felt my bones crack, this wasn't good.
i looked outside for the first time in the fight i saw everyone staring, arielle looked worried, mr matthew looked unfazed didn't even flinch.
i refocused to dennis in the hopes of doing something, anything, all to no avail.
he kept barraging me with punches i couldn't stop and then i felt it again, gathering of qi, this time darker, denser, but because i could feel it i could sense him, an advantage, finally i hoped, i dodged a punch of his and still felt the impact.
unbelievable "is this why he's the top 5 strongest in the class" i got beaten, i couldn't move well again, i got sluggish, could barely keep myself on my feet, felt another attack, felt stronger like he was pouring all his power into this attack i channled all my qi, everything i could muster into one last ditch effort and block the punch, i flew back still, my arms cracked he was about to strike again when a hand stopped him.
