Duke Fossai didn't speak, only lit another cigarette with a somewhat headache.
"The idea of silencing witnesses was simultaneously conceived by the Sin Knight, High Ranger Veronia Coffin, and High Knight Varez Carrel."
William waved his hand to dissipate the second-hand smoke his friend had created, shrugging as he spoke: "But the Sin Knight made everyone believe that that order, and the countless dehumanizing orders that followed, were issued solely by him. The reason for that is... should there be an aftermath to contend with, he, being a noble well acquainted with Galos and Arthur, would be better positioned to bear the consequences."
Fossai frowned with a complex expression: "Are you saying... that these orders were not out of his inherent cruelty, but rather out of helplessness?"
"Exactly, that's the conclusion I've ultimately reached – helplessness."
