"I've found them!"
As soon as Wanda spoke, three glowing red dots were selected from the scarlet cosmos and zoomed in rapidly. Within the glowing markers, Doctor Strange, pietro, and the youngest Peter came into view along with their current situations.
Seeing that they were all temporarily safe, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
Wanda's voice echoed again from the shimmering light: "I can't possess anyone or travel directly to those worlds. Even the Snow of serenity won't be able to suppress the darker urges. I can only help you lock onto the targets—you'll have to find a way to rescue them. It's best to split up. That way, we'll be faster."
Bruce Wayne agreed with her suggestion and immediately started organizing the teams. He and Dr. Banner, the two who could open portals at will, each led a group.
Tony Stark and Spider-Man Three went with Banner. Bruce took Spider-Man One and Charles.
"Charles, this will be your first mission after joining the Multiverse Defenders." Bruce turned to Charles Xavier.
Charles smiled warmly. "I've been looking forward to it."
Tony asked, "So where are we going?"
Bruce closed his eyes for a moment, sensing the spatial coordinates. "I'll go after young Peter. You take Pietro."
Of the three missing, Doctor Strange was the most powerful and capable of taking care of himself. There was no need to worry about him for now. Besides, their target worlds might not be full of danger. The priority was rescuing the youngest Peter and Pietro.young peter
The former was just a kid, barely able to protect himself. The latter was closely tied to whether Wanda would turn dark—so Bruce naturally made the choice.
No one objected. Tony just chuckled lightly. "Ha, poor Stephen. He's going to feel left out."
Bruce and Banner opened their portals, and both teams stepped through in quick succession.
Bruce's team emerged into a stretch of lush green lawn, in what looked to be a quiet residential area. A standalone house sat nearby. There was no one around at the moment, and the portal had opened behind a large tree, so no one noticed the sudden arrival of three strangers.
"Spider-Man One, scout the area," Bruce said as he warily scanned the surroundings. "Keep a low profile."
Charles placed his fingers against his temple and looked toward the house ahead. "The kid we're looking for is inside."
He paused, then added, "There's another child in there too… I think he might be a mutant."
"A mutant?" Bruce raised an eyebrow. "Maybe just another superpowered kid."
Spider-Man One swung off on his webline while Bruce and Charles approached the house.
Through the window, they could see two kids laughing and playing video games in the living room. Behind them stood a blonde woman, watching them with a soft smile.
But maybe Bruce's gaze was too intense. The woman suddenly looked up and locked eyes with him through the window. Her expression froze—there was a flicker of alarm in her eyes.
Bruce pointed toward the laughing young Peter and silently mouthed the words, "We're here to take him home." The woman seemed to relax a little. Charles stepped forward and rang the doorbell.
The woman hesitated but finally opened the door.
"You… who are you to that child?" she asked, glancing anxiously between Bruce and Charles.
"We're here to bring him home. There's no need to worry," Bruce said, his tone steady and low.
Charles thought Bruce sounded a bit too stern, so he stepped in with a smile. "Ma'am, thank you for looking after Peter." Then he called out into the house, "Peter? Peter, we're here."
The young Peter had been completely engrossed in playing with his new friend. When he heard his name, he jumped up and ran over.
"Batman! Professor X!"
He beamed with joy the moment he saw them. Charles gave him a warm hug and said gently, "Don't be afraid, kid. We're here to bring you home."
"Sir, I was actually on a mission… I didn't mean to trouble you," Peter said, a little embarrassed. Ever since watching that video of his future self, he'd been desperate to grow up and act mature.
But after being tossed into this strange new world, he was still just a child. He couldn't help feeling scared, nearly breaking down earlier.
Seeing his effort to act brave, Charles smiled even more. "We know you're amazing, Peter. But even heroes need their team. That's what we're here for."
The blonde woman visibly relaxed, finally convinced that they knew the boy. She invited them inside.
Just then, Spider-Man One swung in with a graceful backflip and landed on the lawn.
"Whoa! That's so cool!"
"Don't be scared, Ryan. He's not a bad guy—he's the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man I told you about!"
Peter and his new friend Ryan were both wide-eyed, staring in awe. The woman, though, looked visibly conflicted.
"Hey there, boys." Spider-Man One waved at them, then leaned in to whisper to Bruce, "There were some armed guards around the perimeter. Might've been security or watchers. I handled them, but I can't say whether anyone managed to call for backup."
Bruce gave a small nod and followed him into the house.
"Peter, I need to speak with you privately," he said without preamble, taking the boy upstairs.
Charles and Spider-Man One stayed downstairs with the woman, chatting while gathering intel.
Charles noticed how fascinated little Ryan was with Spider-Man and gently ruffled the boy's hair. "Like stories? This big brother here has plenty of amazing ones to tell." He glanced at Spider-Man One, signaling him to entertain the kid.
Then he turned to the woman, who still looked quite striking and graceful. "You're a lovely lady, may I ask your name? And forgive us for the sudden visit."
Charles's gentle scholar-like charm and handsome looks made a strong impression. The woman had also noticed how kind he was with her son and slowly let her guard down.
She poured him a cup of coffee and replied, "I'm Becca Butcher. Just call me Becca. Honestly, it's been a long time since the house felt this lively… I should be the one thanking you."
