Chapter 6 - Transmigration

Ginge knew exactly what happened to Wilson. She knew that Wilson now inhabits his brother's body, she knew that transmigrating is a complicated process, and she knew that she may not ever encounter his real brother back. That is why she's so cruel to Wilson, she still hasn't gotten over the fact that her favorite brother now shares a soul with a useless Earth inhabitant.

As for the reason why Ginge knows about the complex process of transmigration, it is because she herself is a transmigrator. And like Wilson, she learned how to live the dream through a book. And like Wilson, the author of the book where Ginge learned how to live the dream is Florence Hurley, but her pen name in Ginge's dimension was Stacey Carr.

Unlike Wilson, Ginge didn't find the book in a used books bookstore. She did find it, however, on a quest to discover the secrets of a region that the Conley Grand Empire had conquered recently, specifically in the year 960. Ginge was around 16-21 at this time and it was her first big mission. The 3000th region of the Conley Grand Empire, Aeos, allegedly contained the most esoteric collection of documents that were said to grant their readers unimaginable wealth, information, and power.

When Ginge came to Aeos, she directly came to Aeos Athenaeum, the grand library that supposedly contains the said esoteric collection. She and her guards were ready to raze the library if any resistance was met but to their surprise, the library was prepared for their visit.

"Princess Ginger Alissa Conley, we welcome you to the Aeos Athenaeum, where knowledge is freely shared." an old male librarian who looked exactly like what you would imagine an old male librarian would look like spoke softly.

"I am looking for the mysterious esoteric collection of documents that you possess. I wish to acquire it for the library of the Conley Grand Empire." Ginge said.

"We will not give you our books, princess. As we value them more than our lives."

"You imbecile! Guards! Seize the books!"

"You must have misunderstood, princess, I said that we will not give you our books, but I didn't say that we won't give you what you want."

"What is it that you mean? And don't riddle me, puny librarian."

The librarian brought out a small device. "This is a dimensional book library, princess. It lets you read the whole collection of our library in the palm of your hand."

It was an e-book reader.

"This is an e-book reader."

"Not just any e-book reader, princess. It contains the knowledge that Aeos Athenaeum has collected over 100,000 years."

"You are not keeping anything away from me, are you?"

"We would not dare. We specially prepared this device for you, princess. All the books are copied perfectly in digital format and the device updates its collection as we expand ours."

"Very well, I will keep this and bring it to our Conley Grand Empire Library."

"The pleasure is ours, we hope that it continues to keep on expanding your consciousness, princess."

"Thank you, librarian."

Ginge was elated that her mission was not wrought with bloodshed and that it was fairly easy. She brought the e-book reader to her hometown, but before surrendering it to the library, she checked out the contents of the e-book library.

"Mastering the 7 Elements…

How to Stay Sane in the 4th Dimension…

Dimensional Jumping…

The Secret Art of Dragon Taming…

A Simple Dream…"

"This book seems interesting, A Simple Dream by Stacey Carr."

Ginge didn't know that she was being guided to read that specific book. She wasn't really a reader so she 'picked' the book that seemed the simplest to read.

"A Simple Dream, it really is a simple dream. To fall asleep and find yourself in another world. It's beautiful."

That night, Ginge slept. And Ginge found herself in another world.

In her dream, Ginge became a dog. She was born as a cute little puppy.

She lived a happy puppy life, and she grew into a happy adult dog. Her owners took good care of her, gave her the best food, sheltered her properly, and dressed her up with beautiful clothes. She was living her best life as a dog until a tragedy happened.

Ginge was brought by her owners to an unknown place. It was very bright and all you can see was white, she saw her owners receive cash and they were smiling at Ginge in a very weird way. Ginge knew that she was being sold off, and her buyers looked like scientists.

Her body was experimented on. Initially, her limbs were cut off and replaced with robot limbs, she felt that her fate was absurd but she endured and continued living. Her life became a living hell as she was slowly being experimented on until her whole body was changed into a robot.

By the time she remembered that she was dreaming, she had already turned into a cold, artificial entity that had no purpose other than being a subject of a study. She softly muttered, "I want to wake up."

And she woke up.

"What a horrid dream!" Ginge woke up sweating and with hurried breaths. She felt that her dream was too realistic as if she had really lived another life in another world.

"It was a simple dream, wasn't it?" Florence Hurley said.

"Who are you? Why are you in my room?" Ginge, alarmed, shouted.

"In your room? Or in my room?"

The room changed into the red room where Wilson and Ginge were in the Chateau de la Mystique. Ginge turned into a robot dog once again.

"What did you do to me? Bring me back to my world you wretched woman!"

"You can return to your world anytime you want, but you also can't escape from here, my dear. You've read something that you shouldn't have."

"What? A Simple Dream? That was just a children's book! It wasn't even that good!"

"It was not meant for you, but you insisted on taking what was not yours."

"Who are you then? The author? Are you Stacey Carr?" Ginge was on the verge of tears, she was terrified.

"You can call me that if you'd like."

"You wretched woman! Bring me back home!"

"All you have to do is wake up, my dear." Florence Hurley smiled.

Ginge forced herself to wake up, she tried her best to focus and she eventually woke up. This time she woke up in reality. She was holding the e-book reader, and as she looked for the book 'A Simple Dream', she wasn't able to find it anymore. She received a message from Aeos that a small part of their library mysteriously caught fire and some books got destroyed.

She realized that she shouldn't have meddled with esoteric knowledge, it was far too dangerous. But alas, it was too late for her.

For the past 3 years, every time Ginge slept, she would find herself in the red room. In her dream, time would pass by and she would sometimes meet the owner of the place, Florence Hurley. In her mind, she was Stacey Carr, the author of the book 'A Simple Dream', and she was a wretched woman who imprisoned her dream self. She would sometimes talk to Florence and would encounter other beings entering the red room.

At first, she was enthusiastic whenever there was a new face as she thought that the other being can help her defeat Florence and finally escape her 'nightmare' but she soon found out that the others were just as scared as her if not more so. She felt that the beings who entered the red room were cowards, and panicked when the room got smaller and smaller, running to find the door and leave. She just focused on waking up whenever the room got small enough to squish her robot dog body and each time she manages to escape to her dimension.

Eventually, even during the day, she starts dreaming and she returns back to the red room. She noticed a pattern that she starts dreaming whenever there is a being that enters the red room. So she never did anything in her dimension that would potentially jeopardize her when she suddenly falls asleep. Her brother, Hester Stewart Conley, came to her assistance once he knew of her condition, and that's why they are always together.

Going back to the current timeline, Ginge knew that she messed up when she let herself be devoured by the Universal Slime along with Wilson. She realized instantly that the price for her escape from the dream world was having her brother become possessed by the soul of Wilson, and because of the familiar items suddenly manifesting in her brother's body, she knew that what's done is done.

"Brother, huh. Why did you keep on berating me, Ginge? I'm your brother!" Wilson was being extremely playful.

"You filthy human! You're not my brother!" Ginge was still in the sourest of moods.

Pablo Li was at a loss.
