Thomas Carter was still panicking about whether he could keep his job when he heard what Nancy Allen said.
He was so nervous he stuttered, "I... this... this really okay? I'm afraid of causing you... trouble."
Nancy Allen calmly said, "It's no trouble. Your sister is very well-behaved, and besides, no one is at the flower shop."
Nancy Allen looked at the little girl and asked, "What's your name?"
"Ruby Carter."
"That's a nice name, Ruby. The clerk for my flower shop won't arrive from the Capital City for a few days. The flower shop is empty these days, and I need someone to take care of it. Can you help me with this?"
Ruby Carter quickly nodded and said, "I can do it. I can help."
Nancy Allen smiled warmly, "Thank you, then."
Thomas Carter finally reacted, pulling Ruby and bowing to Nancy Allen, hastily saying, "No, we should thank you, ma'am. Ruby, quickly thank the lady. Thank you!"
