Chapter 35 - Chapter 35: Clipping His Wings

Joseph Grant's female companion: "..."

The little cake was a small matter, but she clearly sensed Joseph's unusual attitude towards the woman in front of him and couldn't help but act coyly.

"Mr. Grant, are you really going to give her the cake just like that?"

"Shut up."

Joseph snorted coldly; suddenly, he found this woman extremely pretentious.

He withdrew the hand that was wrapped around his arm and said in a nearly heartless and aloof tone, "Miss White, we are officially breaking up."

With that, he turned and left the Honey Sugar Workshop without hesitation.

Miranda White was stunned on the spot.

Was Joseph really going to break up with her just because of a piece of cake?

Joseph was the young master of the Grant Family. It was said that he was dissatisfied with everything arranged by his grandfather at home and insisted on going against his family. Not only did he enter the entertainment industry, but he also dated numerous girlfriends, and she was the longest-lasting one among them. She thought she was somewhat different in Joseph's heart.

The truth proved that in Joseph's heart, she was no different from other women.

The only difference was probably that she never went against him.

Would today's first time cost her a death sentence?

No!

She definitely wouldn't allow Joseph to break up with her just like that.

She hurriedly chased after him.

Joseph returned to the car, massaging his temples as if he had a splitting headache.

In fact, ever since returning last night, he felt like he was sick. Even in his dreams, he could see those eyes.

Those eyes, exceptionally calm, yet shining like brilliant stars, could be seen clearly even amidst the misty remnants of the setting sun.

Those eyes were truly beautiful!

So beautiful he wanted to possess them!

When he looked up again, he saw Miranda White standing not far away, blocking his way.

The expression on his face turned cold again.

He got out of the car and walked to Miranda White's side, looking at her as if sighing.

"Why don't you have such a pair of eyes?"

Miranda White stared blankly at Joseph; his eyes were focused on her at this moment, the dark pupils reflecting her image clearly as if he saw nothing else, but deep down, she knew it was all an illusion, just her misconception.

She wanted to speak and hold onto him, but just as she called his name, Joseph spoke first.

"Miranda, you should know my temper. I've never liked people clinging to me desperately. If you don't want to completely fall out with me, I can recommend you for the lead in Director Fang's new script."

Hearing this, all the words Miranda wanted to say were swallowed back down.

She knew there was no need for further words.

Watching Joseph's retreating figure, she laughed at herself.

Probably mocking her own naivety, thinking that after two years together, she could truly win his heart.

The high and mighty young master Joseph Grant, she sincerely hoped that one day he would also taste this feeling of unrequited love, of longing without fulfillment.

At this moment.

The Landon Family Mansion.

Durrell Landon sat casually in his seat, eyes half-closed, appearing as if he hadn't fully woken up, completely ignoring the person seated at the head of the table.

Grandfather Landon's eyes were a bit deep; after taking a sip of tea, he slowly spoke, "Durrell, how is your health?"

Seeing that his grandfather finally spoke, Durrell Landon slowly opened his eyes, a vague smile on his lips:

"Thanks to Grandpa's blessing, I'm completely fine now."

Grandfather Landon looked at Durrell seated not far away, hands gripping the teacup involuntarily tightening.

This grandson was exactly like his father, seemingly doing nothing, yet giving the feeling that everything was under control.

To prevent past tragedies from happening again, he went to great lengths to clip his wings, so that he had no room for resistance.

Though seeing him peacefully mixing in the entertainment industry was the result he wanted to see, he still felt uneasy inside.

This grandson inherited the strengths of his beloved son, yet also inherited the bloodline of that woman, making him feel dirty.

Grandfather Landon put down the teacup and sized him up:

"I called you here today to ask when you're planning to marry the young lady from the Windsor Estate, now that she's back."

Hearing this, Durrell Landon sneered directly:

"Grandpa, I'm not going to marry her; just give up on that idea."

Grandfather Landon frowned slightly but quickly relaxed.

"Let's not mention this for now; since you're back, have lunch at the mansion."

Evelyn Windsor rarely came to the Landon Family's mansion. The mansion was expansive and elegant, exuding a rich cultural heritage, but also gave a heavy oppressive feeling.

In truth, she wasn't very fond of it.

However, the invitation from Grandfather Landon wasn't something she dared decline.

Inside the house.

The butler came in to report, "Master, Young Master, Miss Windsor is here."

Grandfather Landon signaled, "Invite her in."

The butler acknowledged and left.

Grandfather Landon looked warmly at Durrell Landon: "Chloe has been back in the country for quite some time; I invited her over to have a meal with us. Durrell, you wouldn't put on any airs, would you?"

Finally, Durrell Landon realized the reason his grandfather insisted on him coming back, a hint of impatience flickered between his brows.

He heavily put down his teacup and stood up unceremoniously, "Grandpa, I'm not feeling well, let's talk about this meal another day."

With that, he prepared to leave.

Seeing Durrell Landon about to leave, Grandfather Landon immediately rebuked, "Stop!"

Durrell Landon left without even turning his head.

Grandfather Landon, in anger, crushed the teacup directly.

As soon as Durrell Landon stepped out of the dim main hall, he encountered Evelyn Windsor approaching.

Evelyn Windsor felt her heart involuntarily skip a beat.

The golden sunlight spilled across his face, clearly illuminating his exquisite, god-like features in front of her, causing her to softly call his name:

"Durrell…"

Evelyn Windsor called his name; Durrell Landon merely gave her a glance before brushing past her.

Evelyn Windsor was also perceptive, knowing that today Grandfather Landon called her over to meet with Durrell Landon.

She promptly turned around to block him.

"Durrell, wait…"

His impatience was now quite evident on his face.

"What do you want to say?"

"Durrell, are you leaving in such a hurry because you don't want to see me?"

"Yes!"

Evelyn Windsor was immediately taken aback.

He hadn't hesitated at all before saying this.

He never used to be so ruthless towards her.

She had only been gone for three years, but could three years change a person so much?

Initially, she was full of confidence, believing Durrell Landon would definitely wait for her, but now she was no longer so certain.

She even felt an indescribable panic, as if something was slipping away from her grasp, one that she might never hold onto again.
