Chapter 58 - Chapter LVIII: Chaus; The Guardian Of Pesadilla

Amid the chaos rumbling outside the temple, Viktor could be seen, unbothered. He was just quietly kneeling in front of the tree as fluttering white butterflies surrounded him, oblivious to the fact that the kingdom was slowly crumbling.

'No matter how much I think about it, something feels off about this monster!'

A thought ran through his mind as he looked at the colossal sea monster. Covered in rusty, silvery armor, with horns on its head and chains between its hands, immensely causing a hell like scene of destruction to the Clovisto Kingdom.

"Does it even feel pain?!"

Zev let out a loud groan, feeling both her shoulders tremble after hitting the monster multiple times with her claws, though it seemed like she was the one taking the hit instead.

"I think I'll die before I even kill it...."

Dal murmured, catching both Zev and Erwin's reaction.

They were flabbergasted as they heard him sound so defeated in a fight for the first time.

"What kind of monster is this strong?!"

Erwin questioned, staring as it slowly walked towards them, when Reinhardt spoke all of a sudden with a dead serious face glued on the monster.

"A Chaus... It was just supposed to be a myth rumored by adventurers, but it turns out it was true all along."

All of them had anxious looks in their eyes, silent as they continued to listen to Reinhardt.

"It was rumored that it will only rise up from the Pesadilla Sea to cause chaos on the land the moment its lord has died. A known guardian of the pit of hell."

Both Erwin and Reinhardt then slowly turned their heads, looking at Khalid, who awkwardly stared back at the monster, remembering that the only sea monster they had killed in the Pesadilla was the Gravis, without knowing that it was the lord of the Chaus.

*AHEM!*

"No... uhmm, but even though the Gravis was killed, it's ju-just impossible for its guard to rise above the sea floor, not unless it had someone taking control over it."

.

.

.

"Heh-"

"How amusing."

Michael smirked, watching a boy with familiar blond hair playing with golden strings in his hands.

"Fuck this boulder guy! We just have to kill it before it ends us all!"

Zev cursed, while Agnette, who had been quiet and staring at the monster attentively, spoke.

"WAIT!"

She immediately blocked Zev before she was about to launch her claws onto the monster.

"Don't just take unnecessary action!"

"What do you see?"

Reinhardt asked.

"Something's glowing in that monster's chest."

She stated as her right eye glowed, activating one of her ability: [Eye of Truth].

"Then is there a way to kill it?"

Erwin had asked, leaving all of them shocked the moment Agnette answered.

"Bu-but... it was already be-been de-dead..."

Hearing it, the mix confused reaction on their faces was unable to paint.

"That's im-impossible..."

They all thought, thinking that they were already doomed from the start.

"It's odd to say, but I don't see life in that thing, rather a thousand tangled strings inside its chest."

*HUMMMMM!*

Hearing the eerie vibrating sound from the Chaus had made them swallow their own spit, anxious as they began to sweat.

"We just have to cut all those strings, right?"

Zev added foreward before shifting his hands into sharp crab claws.

"Then it's time to end this play!"

Reinhardt shouted before all of them, one by one with all their remaining strength, had charged at it, aiming at its chest where countless of strings were tangled in its heart like a marionette in a demon's hands....

"Fuck, did you just step on my foot!"

Zev's eyes glared at Dal.

"How would I know?!"

Zev, who had just turned into a snake, was furious.

"Damn it, this fox!"

They then started fighting at each other, almost forgetting the petrifying Chaus, while the others, seeing this sight of the two always arguing, had lessened the nerve-wracking feelings that the monster had caused.

Just when things seemed to be going well, as Khalid watched Agnette heal and rescue the people who were badly injured and wounded, Khalid frowned, not seeing a sight of Viktor in the messy crowd.

Just as he remembered him, he suddenly felt a sting in his head; it suddenly started throbbing, even hearing the voice of the goddess for the second time.

"Khalid... do me a favor."

He scoffed, holding his head.

"Please save Viktor, he can't die! You can't let him die!"

His eyes widened hearing her continuous plea, but instead of following her immediate request, Khalid stood tall with his pride.

"You can beg, but that will not make me take your request."

Thinking that Ophelia would stop after being rejected, Khalid was stunned to hear him desperately beg for the first time.

"Help him, in exchange I'll tell you how to break the curse of mummie."

She paused.....

"....I'll let you die just like you wanted."

She stated in a faint tone of her voice which successfully made Khalid immediately take her request.

"Then that's settled, make sure to keep your words, or else his head will be the last thing you will see."

He firmly spoke before he leaves with only a towel covering his lower body. Seeing it, Reinhardt began to worry.

"MILORD! WHERE ARE YOU GOING?!!!"

He was about to get near him when a building suddenly collapsed in front of him, letting dust and crumbled bricks block his way.

*Strut...*

When Khalid reached the temple, he immediately went straight into the same place where he knew Viktor would be staying, even if the place was to bury him alive.

"Do you really want to die that badly?"

He asks, watching Viktor standing still in front of the tree with his forehead resting on it.

Viktor playfully smiled... a kind of smile as if stating that it was no different from Khalid.

"Let me-"

Khalid then walked towards him, but then he spoke.

"Have you ever heard the story of the moon goddess?"

Khalid's eyes widened, seeing it for Viktor as a hint of interest , while he was infact looking in Viktor's eyes covered in pain and regret, a look that was oddly familiar.

Khalid then smiled.

"Count me in..."
