William Don sighed with a smile, clearly with a hint of helplessness, "Actually, there was never any child. Madeline admitted to me afterwards that she was anxious, afraid I'd completely side with you, so she lied about being pregnant. Later, after you agreed to the marriage alliance, the company was saved, and she calmed down and confessed the truth."

The company was in disarray, naturally making Madeline anxious. Such a tactic, using a child, in William's eyes, was merely a desperate measure by a worried woman.

He didn't blame Madeline; instead, he felt he had been unfair to that nonexistent child and had deeply regretted his actions.

When he later learned that the child didn't exist, William inexplicably felt relieved, so he didn't pursue it, nor did he blame Madeline for lying.

"Are you sure, there was never a child?" Elise Don asked.

In recent days, she kept recalling Madeline's behavior that day, revealing a certain frenzy that was unusual.
