Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Mysterious Jade Bracelet

The scorching sun blazes like fire, the crimson sunset as intense as blood.

Lin Wanwan wore layer upon layer of ancient attire, standing at the screen for quite a while, her head dizzy with heat, even though the central air conditioning in the hall was of no use.

She couldn't help but touch the cool Jade Bracelet on her left wrist, feeling a brief moment of clarity, a keepsake left by her grandmother before she passed away. Since putting it on, she hadn't taken it off. Whenever she was unhappy or uncomfortable, she liked to touch the Jade Bracelet.

"Time's up, it's my turn to stand guard. Wanwan, wait for me another half hour, then we'll leave together and I'll settle your wages."

A clear voice interrupted Lin Wanwan's thoughts, the speaker was indeed her schoolmate Chen Jinyu. They took turns standing guard near this screen, highlighting their looks.

"Okay." Lin Wanwan moved her neck and went to the side of the sales hall.

This time the real estate event was coordinated by Chen Jinyu with the organizer. A day's pay was six hundred, and Chen Jinyu took a hundred as the middleman cut. The event lasted three days, today being the third.

Such part-time activities relied heavily on one's temperament and looks, making it suitable for the naturally attractive Lin Wanwan to make a living this way. However, the job was unstable and not suitable for full-time employment.

But for Lin Wanwan, who had just lost her job and was evicted from her residence, she had to rely on this work to make a living until she found a new job.

Dragging weary steps, Lin Wanwan walked out of the sales hall, only to see two people with silicone-filled faces, angrily heading straight for her.

Trusting her instincts, Lin Wanwan sensed their hostility, immediately turned around, changed direction, and headed towards the green landscape of the Wutong trees.

"You vixen! Stop right there!" One of them pointed angrily at Lin Wanwan with her nails painted blood-red, "You're a homewrecker, I'll beat you to death today!"

Lin Wanwan was bewildered, me, a homewrecker? There must be some mistake!

However, she quickly realized that whether or not they had mistaken her, she couldn't afford to have a conflict at the sales center. Otherwise, she'd lose her wage for this activity, and it could also affect her future collaboration with Chen Jinyu, which was unthinkable as she depended on her now for her livelihood.

With that in mind, Lin Wanwan immediately grabbed her skirt and ran towards the direction of the road.

It was over a hundred meters from the sales center to the outside road, lined with Wutong trees nourished by liquid. Running between the tree paths, Lin Wanwan was not too conspicuous. However, the two feisty women behind, following closely, spewed obscenities containing extreme maternal references as they chased.

Lin Wanwan couldn't understand how a woman so well-dressed could speak such foul words without feeling dirty.

After running a hundred meters away from the sales center, Lin Wanwan stopped, awaiting the two women to catch up, then directly scolded them: "Shut up! Calling me a homewrecker, where's the proof? I don't even know you, yet you disrupt my workplace, I can sue you!

According to the 'Public Security Administration Punishment Law', one who publicly insults another can be detained for up to five days, or significantly detained for five to ten days, think clearly before you curse! If I hear you curse at me one more time, I'll call the police immediately!"

The woman's momentum faltered, then she got even angrier, standing as a divider, "Call the police? I'm scared of you. Let's see if the police catch me or you, you, a homewrecker, how dare you..."

Lin Wanwan interrupted her, sneering coolly: "Shut up, where's the proof!? Don't pin your social grievances on a stranger beauty by accusing her of being a homewrecker; delusions are an illness, get treatment!"

"You! You, you, you! Shameless vixen, just because you're pretty doesn't mean you can..."

Lin Wanwan interrupted again, quickly retorting: "Being pretty is remarkable! Fair skin, beautiful face, long legs, something you can't envy! And I'm rational and reasonable, unlike you troublemaking uglies, blaming society for your looks? No, you should blame your parents for bad genes, neither giving you beauty nor properly raising you."

In an argument, who does Lin Wanwan fear? Even in a fight, she's unfazed, having joined the martial arts club at university.

An orphan from a young age, she's always had to defend herself in school.

The woman was rendered speechless by Lin Wanwan's bluntness, until the other muttered: "No matter how pretty, you can't be a homewrecker. You know Bao Juncai, right?"

Lin Wanwan coldly laughed again, raised her head in disdain, and looked askew at the two (standing at 1.67 meters tall), "I thought, who are they, it's that scumbag. Let me tell you, I'm not interested in him! I've blocked all contact with him; how laughable for such a sleazy man to think he could manipulate me? I quit my job not because I'm scared, just unwilling to be tainted by you; winning is still stinky."

"You you you! You think what you say is true?"

"What else? I have both education and looks; why would I be interested in a sleazy man? Only people like you consider him precious."

The woman with red manicured nails, unable to win verbally or cursing, screamed in frustration, lunging to grab Lin Wanwan's hair. Lin Wanwan directly compelled her arm, executing an over-the-shoulder throw, leaving her lying on the ground for a long time without getting up, while the other, observing Lin Wanwan's ferocity, dared not meet her gaze, stepping two paces back.

Lin Wanwan coldly chuckled, tidied her dress, and walked away, ending the farce.

"I won't let you off!" The woman lying on the ground didn't forget to threaten.

Lin Wanwan slightly tilted her head, coldly responded: "Let yourself off first, less cosmetic surgery, more studying, for such an indecent scumbag making a scene!"

The cosmetic surgery woman was speechless with anger, sitting on the ground, watching Lin Wanwan leave.

Walking back through the sales center's greenbelt, Lin Wanwan exhaled deeply, feeling things had been going wrong.

Though she caused a scene and it was hot, the green shade was tranquil, relaxing her. Inside the sales hall, it was bustling with people, even with air conditioning, she still unwilling to stay.

The sorrow of humans doesn't resonate, she only found them noisy.

As Lin Wanwan calmed down, suddenly her wrist throbbed with pain, looking down to find her skin scratched by the woman's crystal red nails earlier, blood running down her wrist, painfully striking, flowing onto the Jade Bracelet.

She was about to lift her wide sleeve, take out the tissues from the small pouch tied to her wrist, when, in her daze, a wooden door with a luminous green glow appeared between two Wutong trees.

Lin Wanwan's mind was instantly captivated, curiously reaching out to push, as ten thousand rays of light pierced her, she reflexively closed her eyes, raised her left hand to shield her head, the Jade Bracelet on her wrist at that moment also emitting green light, utterly mysterious.
