Chapter 8 - Sanctum of echoes

The dormitory door creaked open, breathing out a cool draft scented faintly of rain and parchment. Septem Sanctum felt alive, its marble veins pulsing softly under the moonlight streaming through stained glass. The hall beyond is divided into seven quarters, each bending away as if to hide its own secret. And there was a common room in between. Its walls are decorated with book titles as mysterious as the whole place, with its mantelpiece humming magically and a black curtain around the tainted glass windows and in grandpa's clock tickling softly caring about anything and its hands rest at 7:15.

Annaya is the first one to step in "let's settle down first" She said softly "we all need to digest all the information and we will meet in common at 10 to talk."

Kaelen Dray lingered by the doorway long after the others had gone to their rooms. The marble reflected his face, too calm for someone who used to live under flashing lights. He had learned how to smile even when the music stopped.

He hides storms in his heart and mind. He moves slowly to his quarter which has his name plate.

Kaelen's room hummed softly, like it was breathing with him. The walls shimmered between twilight and neon, faint beats pulsing through the marble as if the school remembered his rhythm. A mic stood by the window, silent yet alive, wrapped in faint silver threads of light that moved when he sighed.

The air smelled of rain and metal like backstage, like endings that still wanted to sing. His reflection in the mirror flickered; not the broken idol, but someone the room believed could start again. Septem Sanctum didn't mock him. It waited.

The room was built in curves, not corners, a place that refused sharp edges. A low bed framed by hanging lights that dimmed and brightened with his heartbeat. A desk carved from dark oak stood near the window with some notes lying on it, its drawers whispering when touched, remembering songs never finished. Shelves rose behind him, filled not with books, but with empty journals waiting for a voice. Even the rug beneath his feet carried faint music, echoing steps like soft percussion.

He placed his suitcase aside and reached for the file Lucian told them about. It got mostly the stuff he told about. Additional stuff was documented on their schedule for orientation week which is
