Old rookie John entered the conference room from the back door, greeted his colleagues around, and sat down in the front row.
Lucy was sitting beside him, and the two chatted softly for a few moments.
Before long, a middle-aged black man dressed in a police uniform walked through the front door and onto the stage of the conference room.
John approached him and said, "Detective Chief Gray, I'd like to talk with you."
"About what?"
"About that false alarm case. Yesterday, Lucy and I worked overtime investigating and found some new clues."
"New clues?"
"Yes," John said, full of confidence.
"I understand. Please sit back down."
"Detective Chief, I haven't told you what the clues are?"
Gray spoke indifferently, "John, I appreciate your work ethic, but it's not needed anymore."
