Chapter 37 - Chapter 37: The Truth Behind the Forced Marriage?

"But I never expected that giving you a vacation this time would hit the nail on the head." Edgar Lucas added another remark.

Victor Parker was thinking about something else when he heard Edgar Lucas's words and snapped back to reality, "Catching Mr. Morris is my business; I'm just here to check some information, and I'm leaving."

"You brat..." Edgar Lucas watched the person who left, unable to even curse.

Victor Parker returned to find Polly Sutton asleep on the bed, with a pen and sketchbook pressed under her face, leaving a mark on it.

Victor glanced at the model, then at Polly. It definitely wasn't simple for Eden Young to use a "Floating Goblets" strategy to fool Polly, so Eden might be related to what happened back then.

But Polly probably wasn't even born back then; is it just because she likes "Floating Goblets"?

It doesn't make any sense at all.

Polly stretched lazily, yawned as she woke up, and sat up rubbing her eyes to look at Victor. "You're back. What did you go do?"

The voice of someone just woken up was soft and tender.

Victor just looked at her like this, and suddenly he felt as if something lightly knocked inside him, creating ripples.

"Don't tell anyone about the 'Floating Goblets' matter, not even your seniors." Victor shifted his gaze and started discussing serious matters.

Polly finished stretching and listened to what Victor said, "I won't talk about things that aren't done, but if I really manage to do it, the divorce matter..."

Can it be moved up?

Victor looked at the woman in front of him who kept talking about divorce, "You want a divorce so badly. Aren't you hiding something from me?"

"How could that be? What would I possibly hide from you?" Polly said, feeling guilty, and got off the bed to pack her things. "I've finished reading. I'm leaving."

Victor watched as she left. She ran so fast that she might as well have had the word 'guilty' written on her face.

Polly ran all the way out, only patting her chest to calm herself once she entered the elevator, feeling very guilty.

Feeling guilty, Polly noticed two staff members entering the elevator too, and she quickly retreated a bit.

"I heard that Miss Lowe blocked the CEO at the door yesterday and was eventually driven away by him."

"Miss Lowe is talented and beautiful; what kind of person does the CEO actually like, if he doesn't fancy someone like her?"

"I don't know. Also, York was on duty yesterday and said the CEO was not polite; he even said that Miss Lowe was not in her right mind and that Mr. Lowe should take good care of her."

Standing at the back and listening silently, Polly thought, is Victor planning on putting the Lowe family under house arrest?

Is it about the plagiarism issue?

Even if Polly knows she did it, finding evidence to prove it would be difficult, especially when the contest results are about to be announced. If she and Isabella Lowe got involved in a plagiarism scandal now, neither of them could hope to win an award.

This is something Isabella knows too, which is why she's competing with Polly.

All things considered, it's just despicable.

Polly waited for the two staff members to exit before she slowly walked out. But as soon as she stepped out of the elevator, someone pulled her back inside. The elevator doors shut immediately, blocking the crowd outside.

Polly stared at the person in front of her wearing sunglasses, and hit his wrist hard to make them let her go.

"Ugh, the perfume smell is unbearable."

Michael Knight let her go, immediately raising both his hands. "My fault, my fault."

"Did you get mobbed again? Is it always this hard being a star?" Polly still looked annoyed, wiping her mouth. But she didn't exit, or she'd get bumped into again.

Michael laughed lightly, looking at Polly, "What are you doing here? Is it trendy to stay in hotels now for you all?"

"I was looking for Victor. How did you know he was staying at a hotel?" Polly was glad the scent on her palm was finally fading.

"I heard his house is being renovated, and he doesn't want to stay with his mom, so he's living here."

Polly paused for a moment. Why suddenly renovate if the house was fine?

But that has nothing to do with her; whether it's for marriage or raising kids, that's his business.

The elevator reached the floor, and Michael stepped out first. "Thanks for what you just did."

"Seriously, you should get an alarm installed. Next time you spot me from afar, you can broadcast that I'm near. Otherwise, you'll end up causing me trouble." Polly waved her hand, indicating he could go.

"By the way." Just as the elevator was about to close, Michael blocked it again, suddenly remembering. "I heard from Mr. Parker you were looking for the 'Floating Goblets' blueprint. I know a lot of people, so I could ask for you."

Polly leaned against the elevator, looking at the person by the door. "No need. I've given up. This last trip to M Country, Mr. Yang told me Old Mr. Rook never leaked any manuscripts back then, and he was only fooling me all along, so now I've completely given up."

"Doesn't Mr. Parker have a model?"

"The model's just a shell; the inside still requires a manuscript." Polly waved her hand indifferently, "I'm disheartened by the design mishap. Not thinking about these things at all now. I'm leaving."

Michael took a step back and said nothing more, just watched Polly leave.

Polly dodged fans and exited through a side door. Celebrity fans are truly terrifying.

As Polly left the hotel to hail a cab, she was stopped by Sophie Lynn, who got out of her car and approached.

"Miss Lynn?" Polly still remembered her.

"Miss Sutton, can I speak with you?" Sophie Lynn appeared much more courteous this time compared to before.

Polly looked Sophie up and down, "There's really nothing Miss Lynn and I need to talk about. I have things to do, I'll be going."

"Don't you want to know why the matriarch is so averse to you being the Parker family's daughter-in-law?" Sophie suddenly raised her voice.

Polly turned back to Sophie, "I don't want to be the Parker family's daughter-in-law. Do you think I'd care why she dislikes me?"

Sophie was momentarily surprised, perhaps not expecting such a response from Polly.

"Then, aren't you curious why the old lady insists on forcing you to marry Victor Parker?"

This time, Polly paused. Not many people knew she was forced into marriage, or perhaps no one did at all. Even Victor didn't think she was forced; at most, he believed she was threatened.

Sophie saw that she had indeed stopped and walked over. "Let's go somewhere and talk."

"Say what you need to say here; what do you mean by that?"

Sophie bit her lip, realizing Polly was unwilling to follow her, and spoke up, "I overheard my parents saying the old lady insisted you marry Victor because someone is coming to the Parker family for revenge, and only you can save the Parkers."

"Ha? Miss Lynn, did you get the wrong script?" Polly cleaned her ear. "If you want to act, go upstairs and find Michael; maybe he'll give you a shot. If you spun even a slightly believable tale, I'd have been fooled, you know?"

With that, Polly waved and walked away. Are all these people taking her for a fool?
