"Doctor Lu, Doctor Lu?"
The Nurse Director called out several times before Lu Jing snapped back to reality:
"Ah? What's going on?" she asked in return.
Cough cough.
"Nothing much, did Captain Jiang leave?"
She pressed her lips together before nodding:
"Hmm," she murmured.
Then she continued:
"They have other missions, they must go."
As soon as she spoke, the Nurse Director burst into laughter, followed by some teasing:
"Just asking, no other meaning, why are you getting anxious?"
Lu Jing choked for a moment, feeling uncomfortable.
That thing...
"Who's anxious? I'm not anxious, just explaining, that's all."
Pfft.
Another soft laugh.
"Okay, okay, you're not anxious, let's leave it at that."
If she really wasn't anxious, why did she explain it again?
It's the classic case of 'thou doth protest too much.'
But the Nurse Director didn't continue to tease, understanding her colleague's current state of mind, certainly full of worry, tension, and extreme anxiety.
