Chapter 546 - Pounding

Nora did not know if her eyes were seeing correctly. Wura...and Mero...together... holding each other... their lips entwined.

Nora did not know what was going on in her mind. Her mind was racing from one thought to another. Tears dripped down her eyes, now it made sense, it all made sense. All the dots began to connect together.

Mero and Wura could not share such an intimate moment out of the blue. No, no, it was impossible. There was only one reasonable explanation and that was... they were lovers.

"Mero, I love you so much, more than I thought I did." Wura said as she broke their kiss.

"I know you do." Mero smiled at her, using the reminder of his strength. He closed his eyes feeling extremely weak.

Liam felt his heart shatter completely when he heard Wura say those words from her own mouth.

It felt as if his entire world had come crashing down. He did not even know what to say.

Liam did not know how or when he mustered up the strength to call Wura's name, but he did.

"Wura." Wura heard her name being called by a voice she had only heard in her dreams. She sat up straight and remained silent. Was it her conscience? But no, the voice sounded like it was coming from right behind her. Or maybe she had finally gone mad and hysterical with all that was going on.

"Wura." The voice came again, but this time clearer than before. Wura felt her heart thumping. Her eyes darted across scared to turn back because if she did, she feared wo she would see.

"Wura." Liam called once more and this time Wura was certain that she was not hearing things. Liam was here, he was here and she knew it, she felt it in her bones.

Wura felt her heart pounding as she finally mustered the courage to turn around. She turned around slowly and as her eyes met Liam's Wura felt as if the world stopped moving as she looked at him with wide eyes.

"Liam??!" called Wura in a mix of uncertainty, disbelief and anxiousness when she turned around to see Liam looking at her, standing right behind her. His eyes swelling with tears.

She could not believe her eyes, she was sure that he was not really there, that she was imagining him and imagining hearing his voice, and yet she hoped that even though she was imagining it, she wished it was real.

"Wura" called Liam with a small smile, he could not lie right now, his heart was beating quickly, he felt his broken heart begin to beat again when he saw her eyes brimming with tears as well.

Wura heard him call her name one more time, all her doubt faded as nothing could describe the complicated look on her face in that moment she did not waste any time.

She set Mero down gently and and she rushed towards him, throwing herself on him for a hug as Liam hugged her tightly.

"Liam, Liam, oh Liam." She called as she hugged him. She was going through so many emotions at once. Joy, anger, sadness, pain, confusion.

Liam sunk into her embrace. He needed her, he missed her, he had wished for so long just to hold her in his arms for one last time and here she was, in his arms.

Wura's moment of joy was short lived. She had so many questions in her mind that she could not ask. She had let her joy consume her.

She looked up at his face only to see him smiling. He had not said a single word apart from calling her name.

Suddenly, she felt him go stiff as he held her.

"What...what is the matter?" she asked him.

He did not say anything, his lips remained pressed into a thin line. Abruptly, the memory of the prior kiss she had shared with Mero came to her mind.

She let go of him and took a step back. "Say something." She said, his silence was killing her. They had only just reunited after months and she could not bear his silence, it hurt her slowly.

"Oh Liam, I missed you, I missed you so much" said Wura as she broke down in tears, letting out all her pent up emotions, all her sadness, all her pain, all her worries, every single emotion came crashing down in the form of tears.

She did not know what else to do, she felt so overwhelmed that she hugged him tightly once more.

She was shocked when Liam pulled her away from him. That gesture was more than enough to confirm to her that he had seen the kiss. Why else would he be so cold.

"Liam..." she called softly.

"You...and Mero..." Finally, those were the words she heard him say that absolutely shattered her heart.

It was the way he said it that broke her heart. He said it with so much coldness, so much pain and disappointment that she did not feel the will to live anymore.

"No... Liam, please..." She pleaded with him, all she wished to do was hug him and let him embrace her, she did not wish for him to be so cold towards her.

"You do not know how much I missed you Liam, I missed you so much, every day without you was agony, and now you are finally here…" said Wura in between sobs she moved towards him in order to bury her face in his chest.

Instantly she regretted it when she felt Liam push her away but this time more harshly than the last.

"Liam." She called crying as she looked at his eyes.

He looked away from her and said. "You and Mero." once more.

"Liam, you need to believe me, it is not what is looks like." She said crying.

Wura knew that she was supposed to feel happy and overjoyed that he had finally returned after so long.

But this happy moment had turned into one of sadness and agony. She cried and cried. After months of waiting, after all her prayers and dreams, he was finally here in front of her and yet, he would not allow her even hold him.

She had missed him so much, so very much and to not be able to hold him and hug him killed her on the inside.

"Oh, so I did not just see you kissing Mero?" Liam asked in spite. "I probably just imagined that." He said with so much pain that Wura felt terrible that she had caused him so much pain.

Wura could not help but think that this was a dream. Not a normal dream but a nightmare. Her worst nightmare had come to life and that unraveled in the worst way possible.

"Liam, please, you need to listen to me I—"

"You what?" Liam asked frowning, he just felt so angry, so very angry at her, at himself, at everyone.

Wura stifled her cry, she had never heard Liam interrupt her in such an enraged manner before.

Wura was about to try to speak to him again when the sound of another boom and crash reminding them both that there was a battle that had broke out.

Liam turned his head, he scoffed, he had been so taken aback by what he had seen that he completely forgot that there were much more important matters.

"Liam, Liam, I know you are upset, I know you are, but please, Mero is hurt, please." Wura pleaded with him, she fell to her knees.

"He was protecting me and he got hurt, he needs help." Liam glanced at Mero's weak body, he felt so many conflicting emotions but his most important duty was to end this battle before it escalated into something else more dangerous.

Liam looked around, there was no one else here present but he, Wura, Mero and Nora whom he noticed in the corner.

"Nora, please take Mero to the physician." Liam commanded. Nora snapped out of her stupour, she nodded and walked to Mero, she helped him up and he leaned on her.

Wura turned to Nora and she felt her heart shatter at the sight of the most cold, disappointed look on Nora's face as she looked at her.

Wura's heart wrenched as she saw Nora look at her with so much hate and disappointment, she did not need to be told that she already deciphered everything.

Wura wanted to rush after Nora and explain everything before she jumped to conclusions, but in the same moment, Liam walked away, she had been waiting for him for so long, she could not let him slip out of her grasp. No, not again, never again.

She rushed after him, yes, she knew he was angry, he was upset, and on top of that he would jump straight into action. She needed to talk to him and explain everything immediately.
