Though not distinctly heard, one can sense the caller's deep-seated fear and despair.

Damon Hawke accompanied Dominic Hawke for breakfast and then had Benny take him to kindergarten.
"Behave well in kindergarten. What should you do if someone bullies you again?"
Damon Hawke lifted the little one into the car, fastening his seatbelt.
"No one will bully me anymore because Aunt Charlotte stood up for me yesterday."
Dominic Hawke spoke earnestly.
Ha!
It was actually me standing up for him, wasn't it?
Damon Hawke raised an eyebrow, neither agreeing nor disagreeing.
"Dad, you saved Aunt Charlotte last night. Was she very moved? You should strike while the iron is hot and make her like you quickly, so she'll agree to marry you then."
Dominic Hawke's dark eyes watched Damon Hawke, waiting for his reaction.
