The agony and longing for her mother was seen in Diana's eyes, and stayed tight on the corners of her downturned lips. One day, she'll get used to it... and she'll no longer bear the ache for making such decision. "Whatever your decision is, I'll back you up one hundred percent, Luna ", Scott rose from the couch and drew closer to Diana. He pressed his body against her, snaking his arms around her small waist. She didn't protest, despite her mind refuses. Folding her lips, she followed the beat of her restless heart unsure if it is right.
"As much as you want me to stick around, I need to get going." Scott dived his nose on the back of her head, taking a deep breath of her scent. "I'll hug you more tonight, 8pm?", he asked.
"I have surgery early evening, it will take more or less two hours. Would it be okay If we'll just meet… there?", Diana took Scott's arms off of her, and turned around. Her eyes met his. Ahh, this man. She's been resisting that captivating charm, that makes her question her certainties. Wondering deeply how could she be vulnerable at this man who effortlessly mollify her anxiety.
Scott shifted his eyes on her inviting lips. Out of question, he slowly moved in, tilting his head sideways, reaching Diana for a kiss. As he close his eyes, he flinched when someone flung the door wide open. "Diana, Are you busy?", Calvin stood by the door, glaring at Scott.
"Oh!", Diana gasped, clearing her throat greeting Calvin with a momentary stunned look. "Y-yes Calvin, what can I do for you?", she flustered. When she tried to move away, Scott wrapped his arm around her waist once again, tightening his grasp.
"Sorry.. umm.. ", she shook her head as she introduce the two men with each other. "Scott, this is Dr. Calvin Pearce. Calvin, this is Mr. Scott Devlin", the two met each other's gaze without breaking eye contact. Both of them didn't say a thing, as Diana shifted her eyes to the both of them back and forth.
"I don't think you have an appointment, why don't you wait in line, Doctor? Better if you find someone else. Dr. Woodsworth will be occupied for a while", Scott said, as he pull Diana closely. Scott knitted his brows as he couldn't get a whiff of a vampire's scent on Calvin. Just like the ones Lucas' met at the laboratory. The last time he saw him, he's reeking of coldness and darkness. And yet now, there is nothing. How dangerous Diana's world is becoming.
"I'll just come back D. When you're alone", Calvin ignored Scott as he squinted on Scott's arm wrapped around Diana's waist. "I have lab tests for a consult". Diana thought that she'll never find comfort with having Calvin around. With possible ways, she's willing to work with Calvin as long as it is related to her patients' welfare and more importantly, he keeps in fangs in like he have always been.
"I would like to have that coffee, my love. I hope it's creamy.", Scott whispered in her ear, and smirked at Calvin who's infuriated clenching his fists.
Diana gasped as she got tickled with Scott's hot breath. He remained close, despite Diana kept pushing him away. "I'll meet you later at the lab with your assistants, Dr. Calvin", Diana kept a blank face, keeping it professional with Calvin which infuriated him more.
"Then, I shall wait for you", Calvin uttered, as he leave the clinic for Scott and Diana.
LUCAS POV
"What you did yesterday, it's either brave or stupid.", I inhaled the hot steam of my brewed coffee before taking a sip. I met Diana's friend, Kate, at the hospital cafeteria to get a hold of the T-Pills that she took for me from the AW Lab Corp. Yesterday was entirely nerve-wracking, and quite a serious revelation about vampires' existence. It's such a great deal for us wolves to find out that our immortal enemies have creatively hidden very well not just in the darkness, but right before our eyes in complete daylight leaving us extremely mind blown.
Opening our eyes to such vampire evolution, the mounting rumors suggest that the murder in the island could be caused by vampires too. All along, I thought our speculations would be narrowed down to a much clearer direction. However, it just brought us to a more complicated discovery confusing us more and more.
"I'm just doing it for Diana. She warned me not to meddle, but.. how can I just sit back and watch, right?", tucking her hair as she handed over a small canister to me. She even gently stroke my hand with her fingers before she let go. Is it just me or this girl is flirting with me?
"Thanks", I shook the canister, checked the label and the contents before I kept it in the secret pocket of my brown suit.
"Did you find out what you came in there for?", she offered me a slice of her cake, licked her lips slowly as she batted her eyes.
"I did", I crinkled to say no to the cake. I'm definitely positive this girl is hitting on me. She's beautiful with her honey-blonde hair and brown eyes. But, she's the Luna's best friend, making her untouchable.
"You should stop doing more crazy stuff in there. We'll take it from here", I sipped more of the bittersweet coffee as I feel her being footsie, rubbing her foot on my leg. I almost snorted on the coffee with her sudden advances. This human is something.
"Thanks for your concern, I really appreciate it", she winked at me and chuckled seductively.
"Anyway, I have to go. Thanks for this again.", I tapped my chest on the side where I kept the canister, and stood up before I lose my mind with this girl.
As I went out, Kate stopped me halfway that I was startled when she jumped right in front me. I looked over the people around giving us a look. "Are we going to meet again soon? I mean, in case you need more of the T-pills?", she asked with those crazy eyes, blocking my way.
"Maybe not", I don't want to mess around with this girl, or else Luna and Scott will kill me. She then held my shoulders and tiptoed to reach for a quick kiss on my lips. How bold for a human.
"Perhaps, I might need to get a better remembrance of you", she winked and walked away. I staggered in a different direction, when I saw Scott already on his way out. That girl is dangerous, and I hope we won't see each other again. I scurried towards Scott's direction until I caught up to him. As I get closer to our pack's Alpha, I could sense the strong scent of pheromones in him. This dumbass!
"Thank goodness you're here. I need a ride", I matched his steps out of the hospital. I couldn't help but tighten my lips, holding my laughter.
"You're in heat in a hospital?? You're sick. Cool down or don't ride with me", Scott said, as if he's not in heat himself.
"Me? No way! You think you don't reek? Give me a break", I followed Scott to his car, and tossed myself in the passenger seat as he start the car. Immediately, Scott turned on the airconditioner and we both basked in the cold gusts of its airflow cooling the heat growing inside of us. Not too long, I put down the canister of T-pills on the center console, as I stretch my leg.
"So.. you think it's her blood.", Scott asked, driving out. "They use her blood to cover up the vampire's scent?".
"Just as you thought, vampires blend in unknowingly. And it could make them walk in daylight", I replied. "But what if, it's not just vampires.. what if all beings? Like Nagualli, wolves.. not that we drink blood.. but you know, Alva? She doesn't have a scent", I fanned my body with my coat.
Scott grunted about the thought I gave him. "How about their strengths? You think, it's affected?", he asked, speeding up on the road, weaving through the traffic.
"That, I'm not yet sure of. The people inside the lab doesn't seem to have sensed me.. Or maybe they did? They just let me walked around", I said.
"You've been played, Lucas. Alva knew you were there", Scott gave me chilling remark. Of course. I was nearly captured when suddenly there was an abrupt turn of events, letting me walk away alive. It was a clear warning that they knew who I was. "The vampire in the hospital. He had scent before, then lost it days after. Maybe he can tell us something about it.", Scott said as we arrive at his office. "And what about these pills?", he asked, lifting the canister up.
"Those are for Stanley.. are you sure you want to give him that?", Knowing Alva harvests Diana's blood for the vampires, I wouldn't want to know what's in it or have a slightest idea to give those to my own father.
Scott didn't answer, but by the looks of it, I know what he's planning to do. When we get out of the car, I fixed myself and turned back to him. "By the way Alpha, happy birthday. See you at your party tonight", I said as we get in the Devlin Building.
