Chapter 16 - Chapter 16 Ruins

It just needs a little more meticulous polishing to become a sharp weapon, with the tip made slightly tougher.

He stood up straight, surveying his surroundings. Besides the noise of the crowd, there was nothing unusual, silent, everything plunged into a world of silence.

This world is completely unfamiliar; the priority is to find a safe stronghold.

"Who is that?!!"

A female voice suddenly exclaimed.

Lu Ren looked in the direction of the voice, his pupils suddenly constricting.

Thirty meters away from the crowd, there was an abnormally burly man standing atop a pile of rubble, his body covered by white cloth except for a piece of dirty, dark gray cloth wrapped around his eyes.

He looked a bit like a Blind Monk.

He was staring directly in this direction.

However, the odd man's shoulders contracted and moved with his breathing, his hanging arms were stout and powerful, his muscles taut.

He stood about one meter seventy-five tall, his body covered with dark brown spots, seemingly dried bloodstains, his physique littered with shocking scars.

"Chah."

A strange sound spat out from the odd man's mouth, resembling the clicking of a tongue, then he suddenly bent his waist, lunging towards them, each step erupting with a 'boom', his speed incredibly fast like a shooting arrow.

"Ahhh!!!"

Seeing the odd man charging in with obvious malice, a burst of terrified screams erupted from the crowd before they scattered in panic.

In just five seconds, the odd man reached a man in a suit, without a moment's hesitation, raising his right hand.

The right hand was broad, the fingers appearing short and thick, covered with calluses, evidently signs of extremely arduous training.

Such fingers possess incredibly powerful gripping and grasping strength.

Lu Ren had no doubt the man could crush bricks or bend steel pipes with his strength.

The odd man's hand poised like an eagle's claw, his chest swelling, an intense breath gathering in his lungs.

Lu Ren could imagine this odd man's powerful heart pumping blood, hormones surging to a terrifying level within his viscera.

Whoosh!

Amidst a dull swooshing sound, the odd man's claw-like hand darted towards the neck of the paralyzed man in the suit.

One stab, one pull.

The man in the suit's trachea was directly pulled out, blood spurting, instantly dead.

Such a bloody and terrifying scene frightened everyone into chaos, everyone was fleeing in despair.

Lu Ren was shaken but not overly panicked, taking a deep look at the monster still slaughtering the crowd, each swift and clean movement, effortlessly killing in just a few blows.

Lu Ren tightly gripped the iron shard in his hand and turned to flee without hesitation.

Lacking strength, if he didn't want to meet an early end, retreating temporarily was the best option.

Knowing nothing of the situation, he hurriedly chose a direction and ran off swiftly. Although cruel, as long as one ran faster than others, survival was assured.

Modern people, especially city dwellers, are mostly office workers, pampered with little exercise, how could they compare with Lu Ren?

Lu Ren kept his breathing steady, maneuvering through the ruins at a decent speed, the enhancement from Basic Fighting and Basic Swordsmanship providing excellent balance and endurance.

Half an hour later, Lu Ren finally halted, entering a half-collapsed building.

As dusk slowly descended, if he didn't find a refuge soon and kept exposed on the streets, it would be quite dangerous. With past experience in an Alternate Space, he wasn't very flustered.

Yet such frequent encounters made him wonder if reality had undergone some dramatic change.

Lu Ren cautiously held the iron shard as he entered the hall, the thick dust beneath indicating it hadn't seen activity in a long time.

The scattered sofas, tables, front desk, floor tiles, and cracked stone columns in the foyer bore signs of terrible impact when the building broke.

What exactly is this Otherworldly Ruins' Alternate Space?

He walked to the front desk, looked at a book on the counter, and reached for it.

"Warm congratulations to Professor Chen Guohua for successfully discovering new particles with a 200-kilometer long particle accelerator!"

It was in Chinese, and the date was 2046.

Feeling the connection to the Alternate Space, Superdimensional Perception activated...

The system prompt carried a wealth of information.

Meaning the reality is undergoing a change unknown to him, causing such occurrences.

From another perspective, he seemed also a victim, being dragged into this Alternate Space following some predetermined conditions, yet the system unhesitatingly activated a so-called Superdimensional Perception for him, thus acquiring entry conditions.

Thinking of this made Lu Ren feel an impulse to show his genteel side.

This whole damn thing is like a magnet, wherever there's metal, he'll be sucked right in when he's nearby!

Not daring to stay in the hall for long, Lu Ren quickly ascended the stairs, taking three steps at a time up through the emergency exit.

He only stopped on the third floor midway up.

This height ensures he can directly break through the window if necessary, landing safely.

And any hiding spot should allow exits from both the front and back; staying in a room with only one entrance could mean no chance of escape when encountering something unbeatable.

After finding a relatively intact room in the mid-level, he walked the room's path in his mind repeatedly, gaining a general familiarity before using office chairs and desk cabinets to barricade the door.

When everything was done, the sky had already darkened, and the darkest hour spread over the horizon.

Casually dragging over a sofa, finding a few blankets to dust off, pulling out a piece of high-energy nutrition from his backpack to chew on, and sipping a few mouthfuls of mineral water before slowly lying down to rest a bit.

Since surviving the last Alternate Space ordeal, and the increased appetite from constant training, he always kept two bottles of mineral water and food in his backpack, especially needing considerable energy replenishment after practicing at Yan Zhenghua's small market supermarket and intensely exercising.

There was still plenty left in the backpack.

Listening to the faint screams and pleas for help coming from outside the window, Lu Ren pursed his lips, expressionless.

If he had the ability, he could help, but the first creature's power far surpassed his, showing remarkable mastery of combat skills—the way it handled the suited man revealed the opponent's finely honed martial prowess.

Facing it directly would be like a moth to a flame.

Surviving seven days is the true path, running around recklessly is only courting death.

Only by gradually understanding the situation and seizing every opportunity to strengthen himself would he have the key to long-term survival.

If these creatures were within his acceptable range, they could even serve as appetizers.

Thriving in silence.

Suddenly, Lu Ren faintly heard movement downstairs, followed by a cacophony of footsteps.

Lu Ren closed his eyes to listen carefully, counting a total of six people.

Damn!
