Ren still hadn't recovered when the announcement rang in his ears.
His chest was still rising and falling from the adrenaline of battle, eyes locked on the creature that had just saved his life. The echo of victory chimes filled the massive cavern, but Ren didn't hear them. His gaze was glued to Pii.
The little creature fluttered weakly in the air before its enormous evolved form began to shimmer, shrinking rapidly until it puffed back into its tiny, adorable self. Its wings flickered, its chirp came out soft and tired—then its body dissolved into glowing particles that drifted upward and vanished into thin air.
"Pii!" Ren gasped, snapping out of his daze. His hand twitched toward the air as if he could catch the fading motes.
He immediately opened his [Pet] menu, heart hammering. His eyes darted through the interface until—finally—he saw it.
Pii was there.
