"So, how long will you be gone?" Ethan asked.
"Well, a week, but I hope we get to stay there for longer. Since my grandma, grandpa and grandpappy live far away, I don't get to see them everyday." Joy said.
"Your grandpappy is your great grandfather right?" Ethan asked.
"Mhmm, he's my grandpappy," Joy nodded.
"Well, why do you call him that?" Ethan asked.
"What do you mean?" Joy asked.
"I mean, why do you call him grandpappy instead of great grandfather?" he asked.
"Well, I don't know..." Joy said as she began to think. "But, my mommy did say that when I was still a baby, I could not say his name, so I started to call him grandpappy," Joy said.
"Hmm, I see," Ethan responded.
"Mhmmm, so do you have a grandpappy Ethan?" she asked.
"Nope, he died around the time when I was born," Ethan replied.
"Awww, that's so sad. So you never got to meet him," Joy said. Ethan nodded, it was true. However, it did not bother him at all. After all, he had never met his great grandfather before, so he never knew him, which meant he had no reason to miss him or be sad about it.
"Anyway, so, enough with talking about sad things," Ethan said. "How far have you gotten with watching The Cars of Vroomsville?" he asked.
Joy gasped and her eyes sparkled. She was so excited to tell him how far she had gotten and explain to him all the episodes she had watched so far.
"Wait, are you free enough for me to talk about it?" Joy asked. She knew that Ethan was a very busy, busy boy and maybe he was going to have to leave soon.
"I can squeeze out some time from my busy schedule," Ethan responded.
"Are you sure? Aren't you going to go practice surfing? Or play with Pluto?".
"Nope, I'm not going to the beach today, and no, Pluto is sleeping right now and I do not want to wake her up, she looks so cute when she's sleeping," Ethan smiled, he turned to look at Pluto.
"Okay, and what about helping your mommy or your daddy?" Joy asked.
"Well my mommy and daddy went on a secret date and left me all alone," Ethan scoffed. He had nothing against them going out on dates, he simply disliked that they hid it from him as if he would stop them.
"You do not sound too happy about that," Joy said.
"Nope, I'm annoyed they didn't tell me. They just disappeared this morning when I woke up and I had to hear it from my grandparents," He scoffed.
"Ooooh, the whose phone are you using to call me right now?" Joy asked confused.
"My granddad's old phone, he gave it to me today," Ethan smiled proudly.
"So, you have your own phone now?" Joy asked surprised.
"Mhmm, I do, although, I'm sure that once my mom finds out she will want to take it away, but it does not matter, I will hide it from her and my dad won't let her take it away from me," Ethan said confidently.
"Okay, but don't hide it from her, it will make her upset," Joy said.
"Whatever.".
"So, how are you calling me right now if you're using your granddad's phone?" Joy asked confused.
"Dummy, I wrote down the landline's number from my mom's phone yesterday," Ethan facepalmed and sighed. Why was she always so dumb? Maybe it was her age.
"Ooooh, and don't call me a dummy," Joy frowned.
"Alright moving on," Ethan said.
"So, when will you be coming back and don't say soon," Joy frowned.
"Well, soon, because my mom said we'll be leaving my grandparents house this weekend and on our way back we are going to visit my mom's parents, my other grandparents and we'll stay with them for a week or two on their farm before we finally come back home," Ethan explained.
"Oh, you have four grandparents?" Joy asked.
"Yes, of course I have four grandparents, everyone has four grandparents," Ethan responded.
"I don't have four grandparents, I only have two and then one grandpappy," Joy frowned.
"Dummy, you have four grandparents because your dad has two parents, and your mom has two parents. Your grandpappy is your father's grandfather and then your own grandparents are your grandpa and grandma. So, it's the same way with your mom, she has her two parents and they are your grandparents," Ethan said.
She was lucky he had time today to explain to her in detail. Or else, he would have gotten annoyed and hung up on her.
"Okay, okay," Joy said.
"So, you indeed do have four grandparents, maybe you just don't know the other two," Ethan said.
"Well, yes, my mommy's mommy died when she was five years old," Joy frowned.
"And what about your mom's dad?" Ethan asked.
"Well, my mommy's daddy, he died last year, I remember because my mommy was so sad and I went to live with my grandparents and grandpappy for some time," Joy frowned.
"So you did not get to meet your grandparents from your mom's side?".
"Yes, I didn't," Joy nodded.
"I am sure your mom told you some stories about them," Ethan said.
"Yes, yes, you know my grandmother from my mommy was from Russia," Joy declared proudly.
"Really now?" Ethan asked surprised.
"Mhmm, so my mom told me that she's half Russian, and she even has a Russian passport, she showed it to me, and then she told me that means I'm part Russian, but I don't look Russian at all," Joy giggled.
"Interesting, truly you don't look Russian, you have darker hair and eyes," Ethan said. "If you ask me, you seem more Asian," Ethan said.
"Asian?" Joy asked.
"Mhmm," He said.
"I am not Asian at all, I am American, I don't look Chinese, no, my hair isn't straight, it's curly," Joy frowned, she did not like what Ethan said.
"No, no you look Korean," Ethan said.
"Ethan, I don't look like that at all, I don't speak Korean, or Chinese, stop saying that," Joy frowned, she found it annoying.
"Okay, okay, chill dummy, chill," Ethan burst into laughter.
"Why are you being mean?" Joy frowned.
"I'm not being mean dummy, you are part Japanese, I know that because on the party your family's company had, I overheard someone saying that your grandpappy is part Japanese, his grandfather was Japanese or something like that," Ethan said.
"Stop making up things Ethan, I don't like it," Joy frowned.
"I'm being serious though, it's very serious, you can even ask your own dad, I'm sure your part Japanese," Ethan said.
"Are you sure?"
"Mhmm, I'm very sure," He said.
"Okay, I'll ask my daddy as soon as he comes home," Joy concluded.
"Alright.".
"Okay, so what about you? Are you truly American? Or maybe you are Indian," Joy said.
Ethan burst into laughter and held his side, he could not believe Joy had just said that.
"Wow, Indian indeed? How did you even go that far?" he laughed and Joy frowned.
"What do you even know about Indians?" he asked.
"Well, they have nice brown skin, and long flowy hair, and those nice bright dresses and they always dance at the end of their movies," Joy said.
"I look nothing like an Indian, far from it. I am a pure bred American," Ethan announced proudly.
"Hey, at least now you know how it feels when someone starts trying to guess you with different countries," Joy said.
"Well dummy, you don't see as dumb as you were before," Ethan said.
"I was never dumb in the first place Ethan," Joy responded.
"Mhmm, anyway, I thought you wanted to talk about The Cars of Vroomsville?" he asked.
"Yes, yes, yes, yes, so..." Joy said.
Neither she nor Ethan knew how fast time passed, before they both knew it, it was late and they had spent hours talking on the phone.
"Joy darling, it's time for dinner," Natasha called from the dining room.
"Ethan, it's time for dinner." Ethan heard his grandma call.
"I need to go now dummy, see you later," Ethan said.
"Bye Ethan," Joy smiled.
Ethan hung up dropped the phone on his bed where Pluto's sleeping body had disappeared from, he rushed downstairs and washed his hands to get ready for dinner.
Joy got off the couch and walked into the kitchen, she placed the landline back in its place.
"I see that you and Ethan were enjoying talking to each other, you were on the phone all afternoon," Natasha laughed.
Joy turned to her mother and gave her a hug.
"I'm sorry mommy, I did not even know that the time was moving so fast," Joy giggled.
"So, what were you two talking about?" she asked.
"Well, The Cars of Vroomsville, because I am almost done watching all the episodes, so me and Ethan were talking about the cars we like," Joy giggled.
