A day flew by, and although Rika had said she was going to buy some time for Cloud to arrive, she hadn't wasted any time, because she was sending some small troops to pressure Kouki.
During these 24 hours, Kouki had struggled with the idea of going out and killing these dirty hunters, but he resisted this urge because he knew this was a trap.
The other thing that had happened, was that Eri had managed to reach Kouki's base after having her zombies dig a tunnel from a nearby cave, although during this trip, to shorten time she had to go under a part of the dark forest, which caused her to be injured by the corrosion.
Kouki quickly closed the cave even though it was a good emergency exit, this because he knew that if his body came into contact with the corrosive mist in its current state, he would end up being completely corroded by [Umbra].
"Kouki.... kun..." - Eri murmured awkwardly as she gave him a weak smile. Her hair was now completely silver, as were her eyes, proving that she had accepted Ehit's proposal to become his new and currently sole apostle.
"Nakamura..." - Kouki said while frowning - "I see you accomplished your mission."
"Yes... and although it was difficult... I managed to get back to my beloved Kouki-kun..." - Eri replied with a faint smile.
Kouki didn't respond, he simply kept silent as he watched Eri fall unconscious.
[Are you going to do it?]
"Of course" - Kouki replied neutrally while frowning slightly - "Is what you said true?"
[Yes, I used what little power I can currently move to turn this woman into a full apostle, meaning her mana is strong enough to be used as a sacrifice to satiate [Umbra's] hunger...]
"Why didn't you do it before?" - Kouki growled as he narrowed his eyes.
[Because it wasn't necessary, but now we're in serious trouble and I had no choice but to intervene directly]
Kouki growled again as he felt a dark aura surround his body, he could even feel how [Umbra] was elated at Eri's presence - "I understand, let's start with the preparations..."
[Remember that in order for the ritual to work, she has to fall into an abyss of desolation and despair.]
Kouki nodded before taking the woman who had accompanied him all this time, a pity that he felt nothing for her, in fact, he felt nothing even for Kaori, the person who had been the reason for his current situation. He only felt at the moment was the constant pain of [Umbra] and a deep hatred for Cloud Strife, who had been the biggest reason for his current situation.
The traitorous hero was sure that if Strife hadn't been with them, he would still be the hero he always should have been, as well as the partner of all the women currently surrounding the blond. Yes, he had no feelings for them, but that didn't mean he didn't feel jealous of how "benefited" Cloud was in this situation while he was walking deeper and deeper into this dark swamp.

"I feel something strange..." - Rika said as a shiver ran down her back, a feeling that the other leaders and hunters seemed to have felt as she did - "Did something happen and we didn't notice?"
"It's possible that he started the ritual..." - Endou said as he appeared behind Rika.
"Who are you!" - Cid exclaimed as the other leaders stood on guard.
"Calm down, he's a partner of mine, and he's my most trusted spy" - replied Rika as she tried to calm her colleagues - "Please continue, Endou-kun."
"It's simple, I can feel a strange aura coming from the direction where Amanogawa's base is possibly" - Endou replied while frowning, although this was not noticeable because of his hair covering his eyes.
"Are you sure?" - Cid asked seriously.
"Because of my abilities, I have a powerful affinity with darkness or other types of dark energies, that's why I can more or less sense a dark presence in that direction" - Endou replied while looking at Rika with concern - "Rika-san, I recommend we retreat, I have a bad feeling..."
"You want us to retreat?" - repeated the leader of the adventurers - "That's ridiculous! We've spent too much time and resources on this joint operation!"
"I share the adventurer's opinion, if we retreat now, we may not have this opportunity again" - replied the female knight while folding her arms.
Endou remained silent because with every second that passed, this feeling of danger was getting bigger and bigger, it was as if a pair of huge jaws were slowly closing and they were wasting time without realizing how critical their current situation was.
Rika frowned as she tried to put the two arguments on a scale.
Yes, the leaders were right and this was possibly the last chance they had to be able to capture or kill Kouki Amanogawa without so many allied casualties, but at the same time this was the second time someone had told her that their situation was dangerous.
"What are you going to do, Miss Rika?" - Cid asked as he narrowed his eyes - "Are you going to retreat or are you going to stay with us to finish this mission?"
Rika let out a sigh before looking at Endou - "I'm sorry, but I'm going to stay, like they said, we can't miss this opportunity."
Endou was silent before nodding and disappearing, he would continue to do his job of protecting Rika because he owed it to her and Cloud Strife.
"Start with the preparations" - Rika said as she took a long breath - "We will attack immediately."
"Ok!" - The leaders exclaimed as they went to their camps so they could start the attack.

Eri slowly opened her eyes and smiled when she saw how Kouki was standing in front of her - "Kouki-kun ~"
She tried to hug her beloved, when she felt how her body seemed to be being restrained by chains - "Kouki-kun?"
Kouki looked at Eri neutrally as he looked around.
Eri followed his gaze, only to pale when she noticed how she was in a place she immediately recognized - "Why..."
Kouki remained silent as he walked around the vicinity of the pedestal Eri was hanging on.
"Why!" - Eri exclaimed in terror, fury, fear and pain - "Why do you want to sacrifice me when I've done nothing but love you!"
"That was the plan all along" - replied Kouki as he gave the girl a cold glare - "Your magic-filled blood was going to be the final catalyst in order to satiate [Umbra's] hunger, and now that you're a full-fledged apostle, I don't need any other sacrifices..."
"You can't do this to me, Kouki-kun!" - Eri exclaimed as she tried to reason with the boy she was obsessed with - "We've been through so much together! It's even possible that I'm pregnant with all the nights of passion we've spent together!"
Kouki raised an eyebrow before laughing lightly.
"Kouki...kun?" - Eri murmured as tears ran down her cheeks - "Are you really going to sacrifice me?"
"Yes" - Kouki replied neutrally before unsheathing his sword and lightly slashing the girl's chest, in the process also cutting her clothes.
Eri trembled as she tried to release some of her power, noticing how it seemed to be sealed - "Kouki-kun!"
"Aren't you happy, Nakamura?" - Kouki asked as he watched a trickle of blood run down the small cut on the girl's chest and fall onto the pedestal, which began to glow - "You're going to be much more useful to me.... your sacrifice will save me..."
"No!" - Eri exclaimed in fury and fear - "I don't want to die! You can't do this to me, Kouki-kun! I love you, I always have!"
"And that's why you should be happy with the thought that your death will help me out of this constant suffering" - said Kouki as a huge dark smile appeared over his lips, He again slashed slashed the girl's chest as he saw the blood rising,
Eri let out a cry of pain as she tried to break free from the chains, but her efforts were in vain because she was currently no different from a human girl.
Kouki quickly placed the sword on the pedestal as it began to release a dark mist each time it absorbed the blood of her delicious sacrifice.
Eri continued to scream as she felt everything around her getting colder and colder.
Kouki silently watched his sword release a faint, gloomy melody as Eri's eyes began to cloud over from the rapid loss of blood.
"Kouki... kun..." - Eri muttered as she tried to lift her head so that she could beg for mercy, though inside she still couldn't believe that her end was not at the hands of her enemies, but was at the hands of her beloved - "Did I... make a mistake...? ?"
The last thing she could think before her consciousness disappeared forever, was whether it had been worth everything she had done because of her obsession with her killer.
