Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Give Me a Knife, and I'll Take the Center Spot

Seeing the aberrant's injured legs and its stumbling steps, Zhou Kai and Wang Zheng both showed looks of pleasant surprise.

"Its leg is injured, we have a chance," one of them said.

But the joy on their faces didn't last for three seconds before quickly collapsing. The black viscous fluid flowing over the aberrant's body was converging toward the wounds.

Although the fluid did not heal the injuries, it supported the missing parts of the aberrant's limbs, allowing it to stand up and move again.

It was much slower than before, but at this moment, the wound on the aberrant's forehead was growing disgusting flesh sprouts, which meant its healing speed was far beyond that of ordinary organisms.

Chu Qi, who was positioned to support, also frowned slightly.

"A war of attrition, huh? Aberrants aren't human; without enough damage, a war of attrition will just drag us to our deaths."

[I feel you guys are going to be wiped out, run now! With an agility of 5 and the Agile Sequence, you're much faster than them. Take advantage of the aberrant's wounds not yet healed, and escape while you can.]

"Run my ass. You might escape the monk, but can you escape the temple? The creature in the stairwell is the Sleeping Witch, and she's supposed to be much stronger than the aberrant, right?"

Lu Luo had no intention of running away. Moreover, he had already found the way to victory.

"How many bullets do you have left?" he asked.

"Two."

Lu Luo frowned. That was less than he expected. Gu Fangyi was a very precise shooter, and with the attachment of Dark Energy, his shots were formidable.

But Gu Fangyi's shooting frequency was very low. Lu Luo naturally assumed Gu Fangyi was low on ammunition. Without bullets, kiting would be pointless.

"I'll go first. Target its deer legs with the remaining two shots."

The structure of the deer legs was simple, and if they were damaged, recovery would be more troublesome.

[Did you really charge in? Then I can only give it my all. Go for it, but remember to rest well afterward.]

Lu Luo wasn't quite sure what the reminder to "rest well afterward" meant, but at this time, he no longer had the luxury to ponder it. He made a snap decision and charged straight at the aberrant. Its legs hadn't fully recovered yet. If he was going to fight up close, now was the best time.

"What? Okay, got it," Gu Fangyi responded, not expecting Lu Luo to be so bold. To think he would choose to face the creature head-on under these circumstances? This guy is intense!

Since Lu Luo was already taking the lead, it left even less reason for the others to retreat at this point. If the aberrant regained its mobility, they would all be dead.

"If the aberrant doesn't die, then we will. Let's attack together," Gu Fangyi said in a resolute, low voice. Lu Luo's courage inspired the rest. Gu Fangyi followed close behind Lu Luo, firing two shots straight at the aberrant's deer legs, almost severing them.

But in that brief moment of delay, Lu Luo had already passed him. Gu Fangyi was somewhat surprised by Lu Luo's speed.

This guy, he's so fast!

Lu Luo was the first to confront the aberrant. As he faced the creature, a prompt in the corner of his vision suddenly became strange.

[Based on the muscle movement of the aberrant, it will strike at you with its right fist. Prepare to dodge.]

[Continuing analysis of the aberrant's weaknesses. Observer level is low, please wait patiently…]

Although astonished, Lu Luo didn't let his body slow down, and he sidestepped the aberrant's heavy punch. Then another prompt arrived.

[The second attack will be a double-hand grab. Additional information: the aberrant's deer legs are 83% damaged, mobility nearly zero.]

Lu Luo had no doubt about the Observer's judgment at this moment. He ducked under the aberrant's grasp, pulled out the javelin from its deer leg, and in one fluid motion, drove it into the aberrant's leopard leg.

Amidst its furious roars, the aberrant, with its heavily injured legs, was too clumsy in front of Lu Luo, who possessed the Observer Sequence. Lu Luo's impressive agility of 5 points allowed him to exhibit absolute suppression in terms of speed at this moment.

After dodging the attack once again, Lu Luo raised his hand and called out.

"Weapons."

Chu Qi understood immediately and threw a new javelin over to him.

"Here it comes."

[The aberrant's attack will be at an angle of 45 degrees from the upper left…]

[Continuously analyzing the aberrant's weaknesses…]

Every hint from the Observer was so precise and accurate that it almost completely deciphered the movements of the aberrant.

Coupled with Lu Luo's innate adventurous spirit and combat experience from his previous life, his movements appeared increasingly outrageous in the eyes of others, narrowly dodging the aberrant's fists each time.

Having caught the javelin, Lu Luo stabbed it more than a dozen times into the aberrant, creating numerous small holes on its body. However, these attacks still did not yield any substantial effect.

Lu Luo felt his head and eyes beginning to ache. He now understood why the Observer had earlier told him that he would need a good rest afterward—the Observer mode was essentially overclocking.

"We have to hurry!"

[Analysis of the aberrant's weakness completed: the gaps between the chunks of flesh on its torso.]

Lu Luo's eyes focused sharply, and almost instantaneously upon receiving the Observer's hint, he thrust the javelin into one of the gaps between the aberrant's chunks of flesh.

"ROAR!"

With that thrust, the aberrant's expression turned to one of immediate pain. It bellowed and stumbled backward, a copious amount of black mucus flowing down through the gaps in its flesh.

The sensation was akin to the previous attacks being nothing but scraping, while Lu Luo's thrust had hit the aberrant's major artery.

"Its weakness is the gaps between the chunks of flesh; those chunks are like its armor. Our attacks have little effect on them. Change your attack targets," Lu Luo instructed.

With Lu Luo's guidance, Gu Fangyi too thrust his javelin into one of the gaps.

Wang Zheng and Zhou Kai tried to follow suit, but the rage-filled aberrant, enduring its pain, grabbed Zhou Kai in a fierce grip.

The immense pressure in its palm was almost enough to crush Zhou Kai's internal organs.

"Save me, Gu Fangyi, save me! Lu Luo…" His cries were quickly silenced.

Gu Fangyi drew his machete and chopped at the aberrant's arm, sinking the blade partway in, but still far from severing the thick limb of the aberrant.

Seeing that Zhou Kai was about to be crushed to death by the aberrant, Lu Luo snatched the machete from Gu Fangyi's hand and executed a full-powered circular slash.

"Sharpen."

[7 points of energy have been consumed for one alteration: Blade Sharpening]

Speed, strength, and sharpening—the triple-layered power behind the strike was immense. With a flash of the blade, the aberrant's arm was severed and went flying.

Zhou Kai, saved just in time, clutched at his chest and gasped for air, still shaken by the imminent threat of death he had just faced.

Then came the second and third slashes. Lu Luo's body twisted uncannily in front of the aberrant, the swings of the machete creating a bizarre and graceless dance.

This was the tremendous power unleashed by Lu Luo's innate abilities compounded with the overclocked state.

Black mucus splattered all around as the aberrant's roars continued. The machete in Lu Luo's hand wielded a power far greater than Gu Fangyi's, and at this moment, the aberrant seemed incredibly fragile.
