This past year, Clement Drew and Ned Mamet have become inseparable as best friends and have long been accustomed to Audrey and Ned's way of interacting. When Ned went to their fishing spot, Clement turned back to look at Audrey's bobber floating on the river.
"When's the big wedding?" he asked.
Audrey shook her head, "I don't know."
Clement looked at her in surprise and pointed at her ring. The implication was clear: how could the wedding date not be set after the proposal?
Audrey said, "This ring is a proposal ring, but it also isn't."
Clement indicated his confusion.
Audrey then recounted the story of how, as a child, she whimsically put the ring on Clive's finger. She ended with, "Wearing it now is about giving each other a chance to see if we still love one another."

Clement understood and said with a smile, "Hearing that makes me feel much better. At least you won't be marrying him so soon."
