Norton Jarvis didn't smoke much.
Because of a strong-willed grandmother at home, both he and his father were not the types to smoke.
Out of curiosity in his teens, when he was up to no good with Gem Atkinson, Josh Levs, and others, he secretly learned to smoke. However, as soon as he returned home, his grandmother would detect the smell of smoke on him and make sure to give him a hard time.
Afterward, the wiser he became, the more he would brush his teeth, rinse his mouth, perhaps even have a SPA before going home if he smoked outside, and he actually managed to deceive his grandmother for a while.
As for smoking, he did it on purpose to defy his grandmother. But when he became good at it, he genuinely didn't enjoy it much. Therefore, not many people saw Norton Jarvis smoke.
