Shard shook his head and then reached out to touch the Heart of the Oasis held reverently by Miss Sander. After feeling the elements and the abundant life force within, he formally waved goodbye to the two of them:

Just like Shard said, the journey eventually had to end. After "losing" two companions consecutively, there was one less traveler on the return journey.
