The journey through the city and countryside didn't hold anything noteworthy for Shard. The Green Lake Region, whether the urban landscape or the rural scenery, had no distinctive features compared to the cities he had visited in the past.
As they prepared to cross at the checkpoint, the coachmen indeed presented the special pass Captain Lades had given to Shard, allowing them to bypass the queue for registration. When the coachman displayed the pass to a military officer Shard hadn't seen before, causing the carriage to temporarily stop, Shard noticed from the carriage window that there were even more people waiting to cross the border than he had seen last time.
The long queue, barely kept in order by the soldiers' shouting, wound through the camp and almost extended outside. Shard's hearing was good enough to gather from the noisy crowd that today there was a monthly fair in the village on the Mikaela Ironworks City side, which explained the lively atmosphere here.
