Outside the crumbled research base, Kevin, Emily, and Dan could be seen lying beside the massive corpse of the giant, gasping heavily for breath. Their chests rose and fell in uneven rhythms, each breath sounding rough and broken, as if even breathing had become a painful task. Blood soaked the ground beneath them, forming thick pools that reflected the dim light in a dark red glow. The air was filled with the heavy stench of iron and burnt flesh. Broken weapons, shattered armor, and torn fragments of clothing were scattered everywhere.
Kevin was lying on his side, his face pale and drenched in sweat. One of his legs was completely gone. The wound was rough and mangled, and blood had only barely stopped flowing because he had used all his remaining strength to seal it.
