Chapter 15 - Conflicted

The day moved by quickly as Sargon gave Marie a tour of his kingdom. They talked so much, Marie felt as though she filled him in on most of her life.

As she finished getting ready, there was a knock at the door. She took one last look at herself in the mirror, smoothed out a rebellious strand of hair, and head towards the door.

She opened the door as Sargon stood there in mid-knock, in an all-black suit. His hair was combed back perfectly, and his hazel eyes were bright as they explored Marie.

Marie wore a black fitted velvet long sleeve dress that stopped at her ankles with a split all the way up her left thigh, exposing her glowing skin. She realized she was matching Sargon's attire.

She let her hair dark hair fall down her back freely. Sargon couldn't keep his eyes off of her.

"You look amazing," Sargon said as she blushed.

"Thank you. You don't look too bad yourself." She replied.

"Shall we go?" He asked, extending his hand to her.

"We shall." She smiled, placing her hand in his.

They arrived at the dining area before Catelyn and Harold. Sargon walked Marie over to her seat and pulled out her chair as she sat down, then seated himself.

Mabel walked in seconds later and poured them two glasses of wine and water.

"Thank you, Mabel," Sargon said as she bowed and walked away.

Just then, Harold walked in with Catelyn on his arm.

Catelyn wore an emerald, green dress with pearls while Harold wore an all smokey grey suit.

You could tell Harold had lost weight from his injuries, but he still looked dapper. They were a gorgeous pair.

"There is my favorite couple," Sargon said.

"Looks like another couple may be taking our spot pretty soon," Harold said, looking at Marie with a wink.

Marie's eyes grew wide, and her cheeks were flushed at his words. She looked at Sargon who smiled without looking at her and reached for the bottle of wine to pour them each a glass.

She wondered if Sargon and Harold had talked about her.

"So, you leave tomorrow, Marie?" Catelyn asked as though she knew she needed to help calm Marie's nerves after Harold's bluntness.

"Uhm, yes. I leave in the morning." She replied.

"I hope you are taking a couple of Sargon's guards with you," Catelyn said, concerned.

"Sargon offered his guards, but I honestly don't think it will be a good idea. Witches catch on quickly. If one of them figures out what is going on, I will be putting the guards, this kingdom, and myself at risk. I am not willing to do that." She said.

Sargon looked at Marie nervously.

"Are you sure you don't want to take anyone with you? I would feel responsible if anything was to happen to you. You cannot go alone." Sargon said with a furrowed brow.

Marie turned to face Sargon and reached for his hand.

"I have to do this alone." She said softly.

Sargon remained silent. He couldn't understand why she wouldn't take some form of protection. What if something happened to her? He thought.

"Well, I am sure Marie knows what she is doing Sargon. She will be around her kind. She knows better than we do when it comes to handling witches. You will have to trust that all will be well." Catelyn said giving Marie a soft smile. Marie returned her smile.

"I guess I am outnumbered," Sargon said.

Mabel walked into the dining hall, followed by three additional maids, carrying covered food trays. They placed a tray down in front of each of them and left them to their dinner.

"You have to trust that I know what I am doing, Sargon." Marie said.

"I do," Sargon replied softly.

"Now, Harold, I need you to pay attention to how you feel every day. A full moon is coming soon, and it may encourage you to feel the urge to shift. You will need to stay inside from the day before to the day after the full moon. You cannot try to shift. Keep the stone I gave you around your neck. If you are having issues, you must call me." She said, looking at both Harold and Catelyn, seriously.

"I understand and I will." Harold said.

The rest of the evening was filled with laughter and stories as the four of them filled Marie in on their past and plans for the future. It was the most enjoyable evening she had in a long time.

"Harold, I would like to speak to you a moment," Sargon spoke as everyone stood up to leave.

"Sure, what's up?" He asked as they walked away from the ladies and into the cigar room.

"Do you think it's possible for someone who isn't a wolf to be my mate?" He asked him.

Harold looked thoughtful for a moment.

"Wait. Isn't your mother part witch?" Harold asked.

"Yes, but she has a wolf, and she has never practiced magic so she can't really be considered a witch. We are basically the only ones who knows she is part witch.

"Do you think there is a bond between you and Marie?" Harold asked.

"Every time I get close to her, I feel the urge to mark her. I don't understand it. She's a witch." Sargon said completely confused.

"Maybe she is your mate. You have never found yours. Wow, your mate is a witch, Sargon." Harold said in disbelief.

"An alpha with a mate that is a witch. The kingdom would never accept that even if we were to fall for each other." He said concerned.

" I think you have already fallen for each other, Sargon." Harold said.

Sargon looked defeated.

"Maybe that's why your mother never practiced magic." Harold said as Sargon realized his mother chose the kingdom and his father over who she really was.

"You are right." Sargon said.

"If she is your mate, you cannot worry about what others will think. There is a reason she is your mate. You cannot go against fate." Harold said as he placed his hand on Sargon's shoulder.

"Thanks for your insight, Harold. I have much to think about. I will leave you to your wife. She is looking at you as though she is waiting on her dessert, and I don't mean cake." Sargon teased.

"Yes, I have a lot of making up to do. We will come by to see Marie off tomorrow. I won't keep this lovely lady waiting. Have a good night." Harold said as they walked over to the ladies.

"Goodnight Harold, Catelyn." Sargon said as he took Marie's hand in his.
