As I flew I sensed something was following me. It turned out to be my imagination. I did however see a barrier that forbade birds from flying in certain directions. If they flew that way they are fried so I landed and was greeted by the stench of human waste and decay. The zombies were seen dragging their legs as their innards fell down and their legs gave way so they crawled their way around. I sense the safest way across and saw that it was through the river. So I walked over the water and reached the other end. There were a bunch of people chitchatting. I knew that I would be in trouble so I made myself invisible as I walked past them. They were a battalion under the command of the beta command. They gave orders to keep an eye out for a red head traveling by herself. The orders were to block any and all paths that lead to the nocturnal territory. Whatever happens I must not reach them. The soldiers gave orders to their friends and I heard a distinct bang. I had a feeling it was the bridge. It won't matter once I bypass the shield I can simply fly. I walked in the direction of the bang and saw the remains of the bridge.
The sound attracted Chthonian scouts and the men went into hiding. I decided to see if my invisibility was any good. Oleg begged me not to since they are a different species and their tech is highly advanced. I stood ten feet in front of the Chthonian and his sensor didn't catch me. I showed Kiska my surroundings and he directed me to the path that leads to The Citadel. The path looked easy but I had a feeling it won't be so easy. Sam reminded me that I can use superspeed. I reminded him that land mines were placed here and there and if I hit one I am going to cause a chain reaction. He paused as the others chastised him for his stupidity. Kiska tried to plot a safe path as I floated on air as I went over the mine fields. Then came the intelligent ones. But thankfully they couldn't see or hear me. I walked at a distance where they couldn't smell me. I managed to get past them to see a pond filled with mosquitoes. So I chose a different direction. I found rotten corpses and a useless gas station. The fuel had expired and it was worthless. The food was a pile of fungus and mold. The walls had begun to crumble and there was the overpowering stench of fecal matter. The smell alone made me want to puke. I wanted to take a deep breath so I could hold it but I just couldn't. So I went up into the air till I smelled clean air. I made sure not to hit the barrier. I was about to take a few breaths and walked through the barrier without any sort of hindrance.
I held my breath as much as possible. But there is a limit to my breath hold. The stench made my eyes water. As I walked towards the direction that Eska was giving me according to the direction of the stars. I heard a couple mourn the death of their baby because there weren't basic meds to help cure the cold her baby had and her husband was dying of sepsis because there were no antibiotics or clean bandages. There were no usable first aid kits. These people were suffering because some moron decided to create the zombie apocalypse and on top of that summon an unstoppable army of aliens that made matters worse. The next stop told me that the bunkers the elite were hiding in were amongst the first to blow up. Apparently the structure screamed threat so now the entitled are out of the chessboard. The next conundrum that humans faced was the lack of contraceptives. This meant the population was growing but there was no safe place to raise the child. Some women died in child birth and sometimes both died. Clean drinking water was an issue as all portable water sources had some sort of pathogens. Thankfully I don't need to drink anything since I drank from a blood bag already. This was a sad thing to hear that the earth was made inhospitable but I was told that this is none of my business. Kiska reminded me that I had to keep walking before the military caught me and used me as a bargaining chip.
The next trap was the giant worms. They would jump up suddenly and the force at which they fell back down was causing minor earthquakes. I had to find the hard rock formations to walk as I made my way to the edge of the Umbrella fortress. I was told to turn left and keep walking till I reach a bridge. I reminded them that the humans have blasted every bridge to make sure I don't make it. Kiska reminded me that there will be remnants so it could be enough to piece together a direction. I could always fly. Since I was invisible and using mind comms we had no issues whatsoever. I kept walking along the road and found myself facing a gorge. So I dived down and flew at the last minute. Roland said a swear word and I distinctly felt him getting smacked. I laughed merrily as I made my way towards Saber. Since the Citadel was on the far outskirts of Saber. It was somewhere in between the mountainous regions and woodland regions. So it is well hidden. The others were pleased with my choice of residence but they said that they will be happier if I made it here safely.
So marching forward I found myself in front of a huge alien ship. I snuck in at the protest of my people. I found a few weapons that the engineering department can reverse engineer. This was met with a few rounds of applause. I was on my way out and saw a different type of alien. It behaved as though it could see me as clear as day. This was a bummer. So I approached it to do something. It let out a screech as it sank back into its tank. I didn't wait for permission. I jumped in too. I found it and attacked it. Purple ooze came out and penetrated my skin. There was no irritation. The thing wriggled for a few seconds then the wound healed itself. Then I mentally connected with the thing to give it a firm warning. The tentacled beast took me seriously as it called off security to let me pass. The thing said that it was stolen from its home world and brought here for strategic purposes. I promised to help it in exchange for its departure. It agreed and I surfaced to see a weird looking hound with tentacles. Its skin looked loose and almost about to fall off. It had eight eyes and its joints were bent in the opposite direction.
The path to the cockpit was easy and I managed to hypnotize one of the Chthonians to fly these beings to a safe zone. For my help this creature gave me a vial of violet colored substance. It severed the link with my kind before showing me that the vial contained what the Chthonian brought him here for. The ability to repeat a moment till the result was to their satisfaction. I was told to keep this a secret since there are those who wish to do me harm. It helped me create a memory bank where I can keep things that I didn't want anyone to find out. No one can open it even if I gave permission. I thanked him and drank the vial. Then jumped out the opened window to fly in the direction of my fortress. I sensed my way and until I finally felt the urge to connect with my husband. He wasn't angry about the disconnect but was curious about the vial. I told him that I got rid of it so it is no longer a problem. Kiska told me that I was heading in the wrong direction so after the course correction I headed towards home sweet home.
