Chapter 7 - 6/Adventurer

POV Logan

After carefully selecting a few books recommended by Marie, I headed toward an inn she had also suggested. I still needed to complete my guild registration the next day to obtain my card. Upon arriving at the inn, I was struck by an atmosphere reminiscent of the modest countryside restaurants from my world of origin, though clearly far less luxurious. However, it was important to note that this inn remained within an affordable price range, and in that regard, I was fortunate it didn't resemble some run-down hovel.

On top of that, meals were included in the price of the room, and I also had access to a shared bath. As soon as I arrived, I decided to go straight to the bathroom to enjoy a well-deserved moment of relaxation. Fortunately, given the late hour, I had the entire bathhouse to myself, which allowed me to take my bath in complete peace. Through the window, I could admire the breathtaking view, the stars scattered across the night sky, shimmering with their radiant glow.

What was truly remarkable was the presence of two immense, dazzling moons bathing the sky in their light. Each moon had its own captivating color: one with a soft, enchanting blue, while the other shone with an intense crimson hue. This celestial vision created an atmosphere both mysterious and enchanting, turning my evening into an unforgettable experience.

"It's truly a beautiful sight," I said, marveling at this spectacle so new to me.

After that pleasant bath, I returned to my room. Sitting comfortably, I opened the books to delve further into the history of this world. This time, they provided a bit more detail about the reasons behind the discrimination and the beginning of the conflict:

The goddess Hamnésia had once been benevolent toward all races, but the birth of a corrupt and malevolent Demon King shattered the balance of this peaceful world. Unable to bear her authority and desiring to become the god of this world himself, he rebelled against the goddess and rallied the other races into a great rebellion. Only the human race continued to believe in and follow the goddess's teachings. All of this led to what history now calls the Bloody War. To punish the losers and those who had sided with the Demon King, the goddess, in her great mercy, instead of completely annihilating them, condemned them to discrimination and slavery.

Exasperatedand for other reasons I didn't want to dwell on that night I closed the history book and opened the skills book instead, taking a glance at my own abilities.

"Encyclopedia gives me complete access to the knowledge of my former world. Vector Control grants me the ability to manipulate any vectors. And finally, Ultra-Fast Learning — I can learn and assimilate at an extraordinary speed. Three exclusive skills that only I possess. The only ones that will be useful to me in combat are Vector Control and Ultra-Fast Learning. I urgently need to hide these abilities from others at all costs, and fortunately, I've found the perfect skill for that."

Stealth: Allows you to hide your abilities and stats from others. (Analyze can see through Stealth depending on its level).

"Depending on its level? The level of the one using Analyze? Whatever. I need to obtain Stealth and Analyze. Stealth can be acquired with classes like Assassin by leveling up," I thought as I continued reading.

Stealth is acquired by learning to "hack" your own status window through precise manipulation of mana. To succeed, you must inject exactly 40% of your mana into the magical structure of the status window.

"I see, if this skill is hard to obtain, that's the reason why. It's like one of those punch machines, if I had to compare hitting exactly the number you want would be extremely difficult. Fortunately, I have an advantage: Ultra-Fast Learning and my Calculation stat."

I then opened my status window and began calculating precisely 40% of my current mana. With an almost obsessive meticulousness, I circulated this energy throughout my body repeatedly, striving to master this essential resource. For five consecutive hours, I maintained intense focus, seated at the edge of my bed, while scrutinizing and adjusting every infinitesimal movement of mana with precision. Over time, I was able to gain a fundamental understanding of mana circulation, a learning milestone that marked a crucial step on my path.

Once I had mastered this stage, I transferred the concentrated energy to the tips of my fingers, then gently touched my status window.

Although my attempt had ended in failure, I could still consider the result encouraging. What mattered most was that I still had another chance, one more attempt available to me.

"Come on, one more time. I can't afford to fail," I said, motivating myself.

I focused again, gathering the energy with greater determination and letting it flow through my entire being. This time, I made sure to add a slight extra dose of energy, compensating for the small shortfall that had marred my first attempt. With renewed confidence, I touched my status window, knowing I had done everything in my power to succeed this time.

"Yes! I got it!" I exclaimed in joy.

Curious, I set about modifying my status window to see if my efforts had paid off. My mana was gradually drained as I meditated on the changes I wanted to make. Finally, my status window modified itself correctly, and a satisfied smile lit up my face. I was overjoyed with this success a crucial step in my journey to mastering mana.

However, suddenly, a feeling of heaviness and nausea flooded my body, brutally reminding me of the backlash from my efforts. The sensation was far from pleasant, and my exhaustion was palpable, as I had completely drained my mana. I lay fully down on the bed, letting my thoughts wander for a moment about what I should do next.

"Analyze is obtained by leveling up, generally around level 20, but only for a limited number of classes. After level 30, Analyze can no longer be acquired. So I need to level up to see if my class can obtain it."

Analyze: Allows you to see your opponents' status. However, depending on the level of your Analyze skill, you won't be able to view the status of someone more than 20 levels above you.>

After successfully completing my task of modifying the status window, and feeling exhausted from the effort, I drifted off into a peaceful sleep. I left the window open to let in the gentle glow of the magnificent moons that softly illuminated this new world I was gradually discovering. Beneath their soothing radiance, I found the comfort I needed to restore my strength.

-------

The next morning, after waking up, getting dressed, and preparing myself, I headed to the guild. Upon my arrival, Marie was sitting behind her counter. When our eyes met, she suddenly left her post and quickly approached me, which caught me off guard and made me instinctively step back, a slight reflex of retreat.

This unexpected reaction from Marie sparked within me a mix of curiosity and a hint of apprehension, wondering what could have triggered such a sudden and intense response from her.

"I knew I wasn't imagining things yesterday your eyes have such a beautiful red color."

"It's true that Forcing no longer hides my red eyes, but I still don't understand why," I thought.

I stepped back a little further and answered her while steering away from the subject:

"I'm going to hunt goblins; are there any other monsters to hunt?"

"You can also hunt wolves. And do you plan on finishing your registration?"

"After the hunt. But I have a question does the guild keep adventurers' information private?"

"Yes, all adventurer information is kept private."

"Good, thank you."

After leaving the guild, I followed the same path as the day before, heading toward the forest. After several minutes of walking, I decided to take a break and reflect for a moment.

"Vector Control allows me to manipulate movement, but in that case, I should theoretically be able to sense it as well. So I could normally apply it like a radar, right? If something moves, it creates motion, so technically I should be able to calculate its location, its distance, its speed, and its size."

I closed my eyes and focused deeply, feeling an electric current run through my brain and my body. I activated my Vector Control power to detect the movements around me, letting myself be guided by this new perception.

Little by little, I began to sense the subtle movements in my surroundings, almost as if I had awakened an internal radar. Moving objects revealed themselves to me the direction of the wind, the falling leaves, the birds in flight. I could calculate their location, their distance, their speed, and even their size. It was a fascinating experience that opened up all sorts of new possibilities for me.

"How far can I apply this radar?" I wondered.

Pushing my abilities to their maximum potential, I extended my Vector Control power beyond what I thought was possible. After a few moments, I confirmed a range of 100 meters for my enhanced sensory radar. The movements of creatures to the east did not escape me, and taking their size and speed into account, I quickly concluded they were wolves.

Without hesitation, I decided to rush toward them at surprising speed. In less than a minute, I reached the wolves' location; they seemed startled to see me. At the same time, I had moved against the wind to prevent them from detecting me with their sense of smell.

"Hello, would you kindly die for me?"

A volley of stones shot from my hand at high speed, piercing through them like Swiss cheese. All twenty wolves before me collapsed, dead on the spot. Then I sensed another presence about ninety meters away: a group of fifteen goblins. With unwavering concentration, I formed stone projectiles, then precisely calculated the distance, wind resistance, and potential obstacles along their path. After completing my calculations, I was confident my aim would be true.

"Here we go!"

I launched ten stones from each of my ten fingers. The projectiles tore through everything in their way, striking their targets with deadly precision. The collapsing goblin corpses confirmed their deaths; I had managed to eliminate six.

Meanwhile, the remaining goblins seemed disoriented, still searching for the source of the attack. Some stones hadn't survived collisions with other objects along the way, which explained why not all targets were hit. Nonetheless, my display of power clearly demonstrated the effectiveness of my Vector Control, and I was ready to fire again.

"I can get Analyze right now if I kill the remaining goblins?"

In a swift and determined motion, I hastily grabbed more stones and launched them toward the remaining goblins. However, their frantic and erratic movements greatly reduced my accuracy. Furthermore, some stones once again broke apart mid-flight, limiting the effectiveness of my attack. Despite my efforts, I only managed to hit three of the remaining goblins.

Faced with this situation, I decided to engage them directly. I rushed at the goblins to finish them off myself. Once that was done, the message I had been waiting for finally appeared, and the corners of my mouth curled into a smile.

"Well, that wasn't bad at all. Once again, I took no damage, spent no mana, and on top of that, I finally obtained Analyze," I said, very pleased with the results.

Content, I returned to the guild and completed my registration according to the required procedures, making sure, of course, to keep all my exclusive abilities a secret. Caution was essential; it was vital to protect my unique skills while continuing to integrate into this world.

"Your guild registration is complete. Here is your adventurer card," Marie said, handing me the card.

The card I received was a deep black, with my name and all my information neatly inscribed on it in white. The card's borders were also a bright white, and the letter corresponding to my rank was framed in a white square. This distinctive design made the rank hierarchy easy to identify, with each rank associated with its own specific color and unique visual features:

F / Black E / Gray D / White C / Red B / Bronze A / Silver S / Semi-Gold SS / Half-Gold Card SSS / Fully Gold Card

"You are ranked as a novice adventurer, Rank F," she congratulated me, clearly pleased with the completion of my registration.

"Ah, I also have this for you," I said, pulling out a large sack filled with wolf pelts, goblin ears, and their crystals.

She examined them all and looked at me just as perplexed as she had the first time I brought back goblins.

"You know all these wolves and goblins were between level 15 and 18?" she asked, baffled.

"Is that a problem? And how do you know?" I asked, almost worried.

"I have the Monster Analyze skill. You're level 27, which is already exceptional considering you just registered. And you're telling me you fought forty-five monsters of level 15, alone no less! Are you yourself some kind of monster?" she asked, scanning me from head to toe.

"I don't think so, no." "If she saw my three exclusive abilities, what would she say?" I wondered.

"Well, you can already qualify for Rank E," she suddenly declared.

"Isn't that only possible by completing quests?"

"You can also rank up based on your accomplishments and feats. And defeating forty-five monsters on your own is still quite an achievement, considering you're only Rank F," she explained with a smile.

"And how does ranking up work?"

"You have to face an examiner to determine whether you're fit to advance in rank. If you succeed, you'll become the fastest adventurer to ever rank up."

"Then can we start right away?" I asked eagerly.

Monster Encyclopedia

THE WOLF

The wild wolf, though widespread, should never be underestimated. Larger and more massive than ordinary wolves, it embodies swiftness, ferocity, and collective intelligence. In packs, it becomes a true scourge for isolated villages and a deadly challenge for reckless adventurers.

Size and Build

The wild wolf measures between 1.4 and 1.7 meters at the shoulder — about the height of a crouching man. Its body is long, muscular, and perfectly adapted for tracking. Its sturdy limbs end in sharp claws capable of slashing through thick leather. Its low, tense posture, calculating gaze, and jaw always ready to snap give it an appearance that is both noble and menacing.

Fur

Its coat is dense and bicolored: steel gray mixed with deep black, with lighter shades on the belly, muzzle, and legs. It is designed for camouflage in dense forests, misty mountains, and shaded plains. In winter, the fur thickens, almost doubling; in summer, it sheds density to facilitate running.

Head and Expression

The wolf's head is broad and angular, adorned with two constantly upright pointed ears. Its piercing yellow eyes gleam with sharp animal intelligence. When it opens its mouth, a powerfully armed jaw is revealed: long, curved fangs designed to seize and hold, even to break the neck of a medium-sized prey.

Its muzzle is short but powerful, and its fangs are often visible even when it's not growling, enhancing its perpetually threatening appearance.

Physical Behavior

Even at rest, the wolf maintains constant muscle tension. It can leap effortlessly across long distances and climb, jump, or charge with brutal precision. When on alert, its fur bristles slightly, creating an impressive visual display meant to intimidate.

Notable Traits Observed

Asymmetrical jaws in certain dominant males: a sign of past combat and victory. Worn or blackened fangs in older wolves, indicating a long life of hunting and fighting. Enhanced vocal resonance: some individuals produce howls powerful enough to temporarily disorient prey or adventurers.

Color & Camouflage

Steel gray, deep black, ash white: ideal for forest or rocky environments. Color variation depending on the region is common, making some packs nearly invisible in their habitat.

"You think you heard a twig snap behind you. But if it was a wolf, then it's already too late."
