Damien rushed over, falling on his knees. One hand holding up Ernesto's head, the other on his chest, trying to stanch the flow of blood by applying pressure. Leo still hovered behind them. He stood a few paces away but still too close.
" Damien, I don't know what happened. I didn't mean to—"
Damien gritted his teeth. " Haven't you done enough?" He snapped. His eyes were bloodshot as he tried to hold back the hot stream of tears. Leo's face contorted with guilt and regret but Damien was past caring, not when it was his brother that lay on the ground bleeding out. " Get out! Leave!"
The pained expression was still etched on his face but he did as he was told. He turned around and walked away.
At the sound of Leo's retreating footsteps, Damien helped Ernesto to his feet. He stood with an agonized groan, leaning heavily on Damien. He knew he should have been angry at Damien but with the pain coursing through him, he didn't have the strength to muster such a strong emotion.
