Cherreads

Chapter 534 - The night after .

Jay decided to take the matters in his own hands . As they found themselves at the Redcliffe's mansion . The same luxirous mansions with reflective flooring and sturdy marble . Which predictable patterns. On the staircase there was a banner on both sides which read .

Live , fight and contribute to the Codex.

Codex a special machine which allows for the ones who would it to swiftly predict ones actions based on the moveset database stored in the Codex .

Jay :

Oh is that the numbers you keep speaking isn't it .

Rena :

The Codex is the culmination of all the moves a person can make .

The butlers welcomed them and asked them to enter the office where the patriarch was waiting.

While being in the way . Jay asked Rena about the groom

Jay :

So who's the groom .

Rena :

It's a mage . A very talented mage from the highest society.

My father thinks he can contribute to the Codex the most .

The reached the patriarch's office . Where he was working alongside ai on his daily tasks as a patriarch .

Patriarch:

After running away , you've come back back home . Did you sort out your feelings . And you bought your friend with you .

Jay :

Jay Garrick , here I'm Rena's classmate she has help me a lot . During our field trip .

Patriarch :

Congratulations for receiving the medal of Honor at this age.

It's not easy being part of such a big operation and being successful .

So what do I owe this visit ?

Jay clamped up because he went in full confidence but couldn't figure out the words to speak.

Rena :

Father , as I've said already I don't want to be married of to someone I don't even know .

Rena's father looked at her and then at Jay meticulously

And he targeted Jay with logic .

Patriarch :

I'm sure you're here to support Rena's side . Thank you for doing that . But there are reasons why I am doing this .

After the patriarch , I'm her father and no father wants their children to suffer .

Jay :

Then why force her in this unwanted marriage.

Patriarch :

I'm sure you children believe in the delusion of marriage of love . And so I did to once . But for us the Codex holds more priority than the life itself . And the boy i have selected for her is a good person in nature who is wealthy so my child won't have to suffer from poverty , he is a strong mage whose has defeated 100 mages single handedly in battle.

And he is good in nature so he won't treated her unfairly . He doesn't have any mistresses . While high society nobles tend to have one or two in secret or public .

He's perfect for my daughter .

Jay :

But think about your daughter's will . Even if he is perfect shouldn't they be atleast compatible. If they are not their relation will be under lot of strain .

Patriarch :

One has to make compromises , in some cases both of them . Without compromise even this capital cannot run .

Rena :

Father I don't want those things . I just want to live my dream . Please let me do it . I can succeed this family . I want to make you proud .

Patriarch :

You can still do those things after marriage. After all as my sole daughter you'll also be representing this family as well .

Patriarch :

I know how much you want to perfect the Codex. I am aware of your dreams as well . But it is my duty as the patriarch to keep the family from collapsing.

Jay :

If Rena has some other person in her mind . Won't they both be unhappy .

Patriarch :

Then let me ask directly , Rena do you have someone in your mind .

Rena's mind was split in taking a decision either lying or speaking the truth . But even lying had a 50 percent chance that it might not work . And the patriarch caught this quickly .

Patriarch :

Seems you don't . So I don't see any problem .

Patriarch :

Boy , you are young as well . Try to see things from a father's view. And ask yourself the decision i have taken how was it .

Jay seriously considered it. As a father , one wants their descendants to be happy and not suffer from the same things they have .

Jay :

Your decision does make sense.

Jay was no help at all . So Rena took a final ditch effort.

Rena :

If he's stronger than Jay then I will marry him .

Patriarch :

Well if that settles your whining then , I accept this condition .

With this it was settled Jay was left questioned of her and her father's urge to marry her off .

Patriarch :

You can stay here for the night and leave for the institute next morning , Jay Garrick .

Jay :

No I'll be fine , I'll just leave . Thanks for the hospitality.

Rena grabbed his hand .

Both patriarch and Jay were quick on picking up the hints.

Patriarch from his life and Jay from the source materials .

Patriarch :

Rena you go to your dorm today . I'll send someone to drop you both off . Rena go call the butler meanwhile I want to get acquainted with your friend.

Rena quietly left off and Jay stayed .

Patriarch :

You've been making a lot of headlines . Meeting with the Head of I'm not wrong 4 times. . Liberating the island , just this merit will get you set for life here .

Be careful a lot of eyes are on you .

Jay :

Who is keeping watch ?

Patriarch :

You'll know soon , no one wants the prospects to be recruited by anyone else. Every warrior families , business who wants a brand ambassador , markets who wants to sell on something , paparazzi until they lose their interest .

Basically half of the high society .

Jay :

Why do you want to marry her off so badly .

Patriarch :

Before the world ends , I want to make sure I fullfill my duty as a father .

There was a silence in the room as Jay tried to comprehend the patriarch's words .

Patriach :

The wall . I know that it consumed the island that day . Because my officers were also in the operation .

And now is steadily heading for the capital .

Patriarch :

I want to fullfill my duty as a father . To find someone who will support her in my stead.

Jay :

What about her free will , you can't force your decisions on her .

Patriarch :

Then put yourself in my position . A father's position .

Jay thought of it and thought that it was a fine idea.

Patriarch :

Let me help you think , you have a girl who's beautiful, rich ,

And she has the exact same traits that you desire in her and even likes you back .

And you are a person who is unmarried and not have someone on your sights . How would you feel .

Jay :

I do understand , what you're going for . And I also think that your thinking is valid . But now that I have decided to support Rena on her decision , I will oppose you on every occasion even if it costs me my dignity .

Patriarch :

Then how about yourself as a prospective.

Jay gives a dry reply.

Jay :

I did think about it . But as someone to leave this world someday . I can't just get into relation .

Rena knocked the door .

Rena :

Jay , come the car is outside .

Jay:

I'll be taking my leave Mr Redcliffe .

Saying this Jay and Rena left the Redcliffe's mansion. . And the patriarch watched over them as they boarded the vintage vehicle he had stored and drived away .

Even after they left the patriarch still looked out of the window as if he was in a deep thought. And then he smiled while looking at the window as if he was successfully in his anticipation.

While Rena and Jay sat in the same seat in the back of the vehicle .

Rena :

Thanks for being there for me.

Jay :

Well I didn't make any compelling points there either .

Rena :

But they were enough to get my voice out. Father always understood what I always want . But it is too disheartening to see him like this .

The butler wanted to speak and defend his master but he silently drove the vehicle . And within minutes they were at the dorms .

At the dorms both of them were seperated and had a lot to think about. Rena and Jay both were thinking of Tommorow . Rena was afraid that if Jay would lose Tommorow then she would have to accept defeat and fate .

While Jay prepared for the fight . He looked into the skill trees and looked at his own stats. He has to make the decision whether to keep the stats or invest them .

If he keeps them he will be faster , stronger and sturdier .

If he invests them then he will have more diverse movesets .

With that in mind he opened his phone.
