"…. Did I say I was sorry?" Freyja squeaked, her eyes avoiding the contempt filled glare of her eldest daughter- her guilty conscious making its presence known- and the absent, shocked almost dead like eyes of her youngest.
She rushed to conclusions, seeing her baby girl crying her eyes out, covered in sweat -that she believed was brought on by panic, distress and or pain- and held in a tight, comforting embrace by her big sister led her to assume the worst, that her invasion into her privacy had been discovered.
Under that assumption she apologised profusely, hoping to unburden herself of her feelings of guilt but most of all to stop the cascade of tears that were falling down Khione's cheeks. Ironically however this action inadvertently revealed her betrayal.
