Chapter 94 - Ripped your hair out yet

I sat down with a cup of hot cocoa thinking about how I am going to rile what his name. I got a phone call from the hospital to go for a bone marrow transplant. Between sips I decided that I am going to take the most annoying path to fuel his theory. By the time I am done I am going to make sure he doubts his own intelligence. I waited till the end of my shift and I made my move. He was dumb enough to fall hook, line and sinker. I gave Cleo the keys to my car and I chose to go on foot. He followed me. I made sure that I didn't vanish suddenly. He looked everywhere and he used his phone to make a call. He jumped up and searched everywhere. He asked for certainty and then he gave a look of contempt before he walked away. I laughed quietly as I realized he was told my destination. He stormed off and I casually walked into the emergency room. The operation went smoothly and I woke up to see my coworkers standing with smiles on their faces. I smiled, "Hey guys. I am happy to see guys. You are a sight for sore eyes." Van Pelt came with dinner and Cleo came for support. I did update my emergency contact.

The chief came over with a box of chocolate and an apology letter. I saw the penmanship and guessed it was from the super cop. She stared as I read the entire thing. The spacing of words, the words themselves and the indent on the letter tells me he would rather be force fed poison. The writing looked familiar. I read it over and over again. I just couldn't put my finger on it so I asked Cleo to take the letter to forensics. The chief asked me what was going on. I explained that the writing matched a note in a crime scene. I can't remember which. I just want clarification. I asked her to be careful since Supercop was behaving like a cornered predator. He might harm someone and claim self defense. She promised to be careful. Van pelt stayed as I ate my dinner. Afterwards we watched TV and I used the bathroom. I woke up the next morning. The news blurted out that Super cop was arrested. His writing matched a threatening note left at a crime scene regarding a dead five year old girl. The captain wasn't pleased and the officers gave him a piece of their mind. He tried to run but was captured after an intense car chase. They were particularly interested in trying to figure out why he was gunning for me of all people. After an hour or so they thought he would confess that he thought I was his wife pretending to be someone else after she caught him dragging a dead body from their basement. He didn't give them that satisfication but he blurted it out that he wrote that note to infuriate the investigators. But finally he confessed to the murder because the interrogating officer wouldn't let him think straight. He was angry but he was trapped. His own team disowned him. They stopped chasing me when they believed that I was the patsy. He confessed to an inmate in a holding cell that he had fallen head over heels in love with me. He wanted to lock me away so no one can interact with me. The thing is I am well loved and appreciated so he used the several misunderstanding and created a profile to make me a villainess. So when he took me away there won't be a search party and if I escape I go to jail. The undercover cop reported this confession and the chief made it clear that any evidence that I am a serial killer or any alleged criminal activity is hereby redacted. If anyone accuses me again they will be under investigation instead. It was agreed by the entire department.

I thanked them all before I went back to the evidence locker. The chief made me the head of the taskforce to find serial killers since I have been doing just that since I got my badge and gun. I tried to refuse since that would put me in the same room as the Feds who remind me constantly of my serial killer uncle whom I put away after their evaluation set him free twice. The chief was laughing hysterically. She made me in charge anyway. The FBI agent Turner came with air of entitlement. That went away immediately after she saw the interview where I showed an investigative reporter about the overwhelming evidence I had gathered. I previously warned the FBI about serial killers and their patented analysis which convinced them the people in question were harmless until the police caught them red-handed. Then they changed strategy with psychology and other methods of forensics. They would explain about how the people were a menace to society but would never once mention that their previous encounter because that would cause immense embarrassment. I showed the reporter the findings of my investigation. The audio recording of the conversation with the federal agent. Their detailed written hypothesis about how inconclusive my investigation was before setting the killer free. I wasn't the only one. I showed the reporter over a hundred testimonials from the public who had forewarned the Feds and the social media exploded with their own accounts of the FBI overlooking the actual proof till someone was murder. By someone I mean at least six bodies. This was proven with police reports to back it up. The only thing they could say in their defense was that my uncle was a serial killer. They neglected to mention how I had risked life and limb saving twelve of his victims while screaming his crimes only to have the FBi agents take him for twenty four hours and letting him go saying he is not a danger to society. They declared that he was an innocent citizen who was being falsely accused. This sparked outrage amongst the civilians. The FBI had to do a press conference to formally apologize.

I sued them for allowing killers to walk free whilst the death toll rose. They tried to block it but somehow others found out and they joined in. After the court hearing fifteen agents were fired. Along with seven different profilers. The FBI sent me a formal apology and promised to take me seriously and asked me to take down the interview. I accepted the apology but the interview stays. At least the public will know who to trust. The answer is the cops. I was asked to head the serial killer taskforce. I said I will do it but I am.not answering to the Feds. I report my findings to the chief and the rest of the police force. She agreed to my terms and I went looking for the artist. Mindy Turner came for an interview and she made it clear that she would have done a better interview than Carlyle did. I smiled, "You know favoritism ruins society." She wanted details and I said if I tell everything now and she or anyone else reports it. It is possible that I will find bare walls by the time I get to these guys. But as a compromise I will make sure she gets the first interview. She was sincerely happy. She asked me about the victims. I explained that they were self employed and completely independent. The artist is someone who resents them since he believes that it is something he deserves more. More likely he was humiliated by at least one of his victims. So this was his retribution. I assure her that this was just a hypothesis till I catch him. She promised to look out for any anomaly.

The next day I got a message that Mindy was taken by some strangers who popped out a van. I got out of the evidence locker and walked out to find her. Tanya tracked her down and sent the coordinates. I found her tied on a table screaming. The people who were surrounding her had covered their faces with pig and goat masks. They made a slight incision on her belly. Her belly cut open like a box and her insides popped out. She screamed in pain. I shot them all in the head and came over. She saw me and cried out praises. I cut her loose and ripped out my t-shirt and covered her bleeding. Cleo and Van Pelt came moments later and they saw us. They called it in as I took her to the hospital. I sat in the lobby in the emergency room as the doctors worked to patch her up. The news came for an interview. I told them that I am not unavailable at the moment. I reported the incident and waited till she was out of danger. Then I walked back to the evidence locker. I decided to check social media. I discovered that someone was following them a week before they were abducted. I sent this to the computer science department. They used facial recognition software to find their present location. Once the next victim was identified. We placed plain clothed officers to watch the victim. Once abducted we followed them to the warehouse where the acts of the macabre were committed. The ground floor was booby trapped. So we cut every wire before heading upstairs. The budding war was heard loudly. We managed to get upstairs and stun everyone present. The tech department used their knowledge to trace the bidders and arrests were made there. As promised I gave the interview to Mindy and went home. Cleo was waiting with shawarma and dirty fries. We sat down to watch a comedy and then I switched the channel to watch sharks.
