The cold air that brushed against Tess's nose made her crack her eyes open. The light from the moon outside her tent walls gave faint light inside. She made out the silhouette of the person sneaking into her tent until they turned their back.
Lanse zipped the tent door shut and rubbed along his arms to warm up. When he turned around his sweet-tee fast asleep was not what he saw. The blinding light that shone in his face burnt his eyes after having been in dimness for hours. He had to squint and turn his face away.
Tess leaned up and shifted the light from her telecom away from him. "Finally," she said with a wide grin. "I was beginning to think you were a night creature, staying outside in the cold dark."
Lanse widened his eyes once the light was away from him. He pulled the blanket off his head, so his black shabby hair escaped. "I knew it'd be warm in here." He looked up at the low curved roof over their heads and stretched his legs out that touched the walls of the tent.
