There was no quick fix to the Emperor's predicament. He didn't have the time to train his way out of his bad habits, either. He could only gamble on the fact that his battle instincts would return before his opponent had the chance to kill him.
That was obviously reckless. The Emperor's plan basically involved bashing his head onto his opponent over and over again until it understood that it had to work properly.
Considering the opponent's nature, the Emperor could very well die before achieving those results. The Source could also understand his strategy and decide to end the fight in a single, deadly blow.
However, the Thilku weren't really big on safe compromises, and the Emperor preferred to put his life on the line. That wouldn't only apply greater pressure on his mind. It would also serve to redeem him.
