Chapter 10 - Chapter 9

"Okay then, let's go," I said, twisting the throttle and weaving smoothly into the light city traffic.

I kept the speed moderate, but even so, I felt June's grip tighten around my waist as we darted between cars and zipped past distracted pedestrians. Her arms clung a little more snugly with every sharp turn. I couldn't help the small smile that curved on my lips.

Soon, the streets began to thin out, and I took us toward a quiet stretch of highway barely anyone used—my favorite kind of road. The kind that didn't ask questions.

I slowed down to a stop beside the road, letting the wind settle and giving her a chance to breathe.

"Are you ready for a real ride?" I asked, glancing over my shoulder.

She pulled off her helmet, cheeks pink and breath slightly short. "Wait, that wasn't the real ride?" she asked between pants.

"Nope. You said you wanted something real," I teased, biting back a laugh.

She rolled her eyes. "Well then, okay. I think I'm ready."
