Chapter 14 - 14. The Painful Love

I followed Hera and Rika to their house. Hera and Rika lived in the Redrich main house with their parents. Hera sat down in the driver's seat, and Rika sat beside her.

I sat down behind the driver's seat. I didn't feel anything when I saw Hugo kiss an unknown girl because I was already used to being hurt by another Hugo in the past.

I was only upset because I had transmigrated into a novel world that I had recently finished reading.

I looked out of the window. The scenery was beautiful, but it wasn't as pretty as my mood right now.

The original Lea and I had the same fate. Neither of us received the love we wanted and we lived in a world filled with endless loneliness.

In another world, I was an orphan. In this world, I had parents like an ordinary child, but it felt the same as being an orphan, except for the original Lea's mother, who favored her the most.

I didn't have anyone here except the original mother, who loved her dearly. "Lea, you need to survive here." I heard a voice that sounded strangely familiar, almost like my own.

It was the original Lea's voice. "Please, find the happiness that both you and I never found in our lives." Before I could ask anything, the voice suddenly disappeared.

I made sure it wasn't someone else's voice—both Hera and Rika hadn't spoken at all, and I didn't know what they were thinking at this time.

I didn't know how deep the original Leanna's relationship with her in-laws was, and there was no description of them in the novel.

In the novel, the story was from Nia's point of view—I didn't know what happened to the original Leanna. There were no memories of her with her in-laws at all.

It seemed like Hugo's family did not exist in her memory, and I didn't know what had happened. Was Lea so focused on getting the male lead's heart that she had no memories of his family?

Hugo was probably the reason Leanna wasn't close to his family—he barely asked her to visit them.

Hugo only used the original Lea to get close to Nia, and for a good reason—Nia was Leanna's cousin.

No one knew that Nia was Leanna's stepsister, even after Leanna died alone on the corner of the road. I didn't know what happened to Lea after she died. I didn't know what to think anymore.

Her death reminded me of how painful Hugo's face looked when he saw my body covered in fresh blood.

I believed it was just my imagination—how could my boss cry because of me?

My boss never fell in love with me, so it was impossible for him to have red eyes like a pitiful dog.

My boss was cold to me, and his gaze meant nothing. He would never have said those harsh remarks if he had loved me.

I shook my head helplessly and looked out of the car window. I am an Omega woman, and I heard it's not easy for an Omega to separate from her Alpha when she's in heat.

What should I do if something like that happened? I didn't want any physical contact with the Hugo of this world at all.

I didn't know why every Hugo I knew always loved someone else. Why couldn't they love me instead?

No, no, Lea, you have to stop thinking about these impossible things. I didn't want to get near them anymore. Love is not important to me anymore.

Love only hurts me, so I need to stop thinking about something so useless.

Leanna, you've already experienced so much hardship in love—you need to wake up from this dream. Love only exists in a dreamland that you can't reach, no matter how hard you try.

I tried hard to close my heart, a heart that had never been closed before.

Hera and Rika didn't know what Leanna was thinking at that moment because when Leanna saw Hugo's betrayal, she didn't have much of a reaction—like she already knew it would happen.

Hera and Rika exchanged glances. They noticed that Leanna wasn't saying anything, and they couldn't figure out what she felt.

Leanna's face didn't show any emotion. She looked like a cold woman—or rather, she seemed indifferent to the matter.

Hera and Rika didn't want to bother Leanna right then. Whatever she felt, they knew she wouldn't be happy to face her husband's betrayal. Hera and Rika decided not to ask Leanna about it for now.

Hera was afraid that Leanna would ask Hugo for a divorce, but Hera couldn't do anything about it. It was unfair for Leanna to continue a relationship with Hugo when he never considered her his wife.

It didn't take long before they arrived at the Redrich main house. Hera and Rika got out of the car, and they also saw Leanna step out on her own. I looked at the mansion and was stunned for a moment.

The mansion was too big for four people. I could probably run around the house until my legs were sore. I had no memories of this mansion at all.

Did Hugo never bring the original Lea to this mansion before? It wasn't my first time seeing such a big and luxurious house—my boss also had many extravagant homes under his name.

But I had only visited one of his mansions, so I didn't know what it felt like to live in such a place.

My boss had given me a big house, too, but it wasn't as big as the Redrich family's main house.

I didn't want to go in, but when I turned to Hera and Rika, their eyes seemed to ask me to follow them.

I could only force myself to go in with them, and my body trembled with fear. I had only met my boss's family a few times, and their eyes always looked at me with dissatisfaction.

They stared at me with cold, disgusted eyes—like I was a pest they wanted to exterminate from the world.

That's what happens when you have a rich and wealthy boyfriend. I wasn't from a rich family like my boss's, so they showed how much they hated me for being with their son.

But they eventually let it go when they found out I was just a shadow girlfriend—someone mocked behind the scenes.

It was a sad truth for me. But my boss's parents couldn't force him to marry because he always made his blind dates embarrassed.

He always used me as bait to scare away all his blind dates.

My boss didn't even know what they did to me after he employed me as the bait.

His ex-blind dates mocked and bullied me openly because he never cared about me.

He never cared, so I never complained about how they treated me.

I couldn't depend on him, so I had to rely on myself.

I had to protect myself without his help, and I fought back against anyone who dared bother me. They couldn't retaliate because they were afraid of offending my boss.

Even if he didn't care for me romantically, I was still his right-hand in business.

I stood by him when his business was still nothing until he found success.

I never betrayed him and always worked hard. That was why he paid me well—aside from me being his contract girlfriend.

My boss was truly cold-hearted. He felt nothing for me as a woman, only for his beautiful cousin.

There was a reason he never knew I was bullied by his ex-blind dates. I once asked him what he'd do if someone tormented me.

"Why are you asking me such an insignificant question? Do you expect me to protect you from bullies?

Are you daydreaming? Why would I do that for you? You're not as beautiful as my cousin, so why should I waste energy on someone like you?

Don't ask me things like this again. Remember who you are to me.

You're just my shadow girlfriend. You'll never be my real girlfriend—not in this life or the next.

Can't you fight back on your own? I really dislike a spoiled shadow girlfriend like you.

Do you want me to revoke your status? You'll lose everything you have and maybe end up on the streets, jobless, once I revoke your title."

My boss looked at me with satisfaction when he saw my body tremble.

At that time, he probably thought I was scared of having no money. But I was actually afraid that I wouldn't see him anymore after we broke up.

He didn't know that I feared losing him more than I feared losing money.

I also regretted not leaving him back then and choosing to stay by his side until it became unbearable.

If love only torments me, then I don't need it anymore.
