Dragon King's Harem Chapter 370. Chaos III
The figure reached the outcrop and began to climb, its movements almost otherworldly. It wasn't just climbing—it was hovering, defying the natural limitations of gravity. Viperax and his squad, fueled by determination and anger, continued to chase the figure. Their pursuit led them out of the dense forest and into the open, where they suddenly found themselves on the edge of a vast, treacherous swamp.
Viperax skidded to a halt, his eyes widening as he took in the sight before him. The swamp stretched out endlessly, its murky waters glistening ominously under the pale moonlight. The figure was already on the other side, standing still and watching them. It had moved impossibly fast, a feat that left Viperax and his men shocked and breathless.
For a moment, Viperax thought he saw a glint in the figure's eyes—mockery, perhaps, or a challenge. It was hard to discern in the dim light, but the sight only fueled his anger. His chest heaved as he struggled to catch his breath, the frustration and rage bubbling up inside him.
"You've led us on quite the chase," Viperax growled, his eyes locked onto the distant figure. "But it ends here. Show yourself!"
The figure didn't respond with words. Instead, it whistled, a haunting, eerie sound that cut through the night. The response was immediate—a growl echoed from the shadows surrounding them. Viperax's heart sank as he realized their situation. Eyes began to appear in the darkness, glowing eyes that he recognized all too well. They were surrounded by Nightshade Ravagers, the creatures emerging silently from the shadows and closing in on them.
"It's a trap," Viperax muttered, his voice filled with a mix of realization and anger. "This swamp... it's their nest."
The soldiers around him tightened their grips on their weapons, their eyes darting nervously. The air was thick with tension, the once confident pursuit now a desperate fight for survival. The growls of the Nightshade Ravagers grew louder, the creatures slowly circling them, their movements predatory and coordinated.
Viperax's mind raced, trying to formulate a plan. The swamp was a deathtrap, filled with creatures that thrived in darkness and ambush. His thoughts were a whirlwind of strategies and contingencies, but the realization that they had been lured here by design gnawed at him.
'Argod, you snake,' he thought bitterly. 'You set this up perfectly.'
The figure across the swamp stood motionless, watching the scene unfold. Viperax could almost feel its eyes on him, and the sensation was infuriating. The figure's silence was maddening, its calm demeanor a contrast to the chaos around them.
"Prepare to fight!" Viperax commanded, his voice cutting through the tension. "We hold our ground here. Do not let them break our formation!"
His soldiers, though clearly rattled, responded with a renewed purpose. They formed a tight circle, their backs to each other, weapons ready. Viperax took his place at the front, his sword gleaming. The Nightshade Ravagers were close now, their eyes glowing with malevolent intent.
The first Ravager lunged, its sleek form a blur of movement. Viperax met it with a swift, powerful strike, his sword cutting through the air and finding its mark. The creature fell, but its fall only seemed to embolden the others. They attacked in waves, their coordinated strikes testing the limits of the soldiers' defenses.
The battle was fierce and chaotic. The Nightshade Ravagers moved with deadly grace, their claws and fangs flashing in the dim light. Viperax fought with a ferocity fueled by anger.
His sword danced through the air, each strike precise and lethal. He could feel the strain in his muscles, each swing taking its toll, but he pushed through the fatigue, driven by the need to survive and uncover the truth. They continued to use their area skills and those enough to change the terrain around them.
Despite their efforts, the soldiers were struggling. The Ravagers were relentless, their numbers overwhelming. For every creature they felled, more took its place, their attacks relentless and unyielding. The air was filled with the sounds of battle—clashing metal, snarls, and the cries of the wounded.
Viperax's mind was a storm of thoughts. 'I need to find a way out,' he realized. 'We can't keep this up forever.' His eyes scanned the swamp, looking for any possible escape routes, but the treacherous terrain offered little hope. The only way out was through the creatures that surrounded them.
The figure across the swamp remained still, watching the battle with an almost detached interest. Viperax's anger flared anew. He had been outmaneuvered, but he wasn't about to give up. Not now, not when so much was at stake.
"Push forward!" he shouted, rallying his men. "We need to break through!"
The soldiers responded with a final surge of effort, their determination shining through their exhaustion. They fought with everything they had, each step forward a hard-won victory. The Nightshade Ravagers, sensing their desperation, intensified their attacks, but Viperax and his men pressed on.
Once they neared the edge of the swamp, Viperax's eyes met the figure's once more. The glint of mockery was still there, but now it was mixed with something else—surprise, perhaps, or grudging respect. It didn't matter. Viperax was determined to survive, to fight his way through, and to make sure that whoever was behind this paid dearly.
With a final, desperate push, Viperax and his men broke through the line of Ravagers. The creatures, caught off guard by the sudden surge, fell back, giving them the opening they needed. They stumbled out of the swamp, bloodied and battered but alive.
Viperax turned back one last time, his eyes burning with resolve. "This isn't over," he muttered, his voice low and fierce. "Not by a long shot."
The figure answered Viperax's threat with a mocking laughter, the sound echoing across the swamp. It was a laugh filled with dark amusement, as if the figure relished the chaos and struggle Viperax and his men had endured. The laughter hit Viperax like a slap in the face, stoking the flames of his already burning rage.
His vision narrowed, focused solely on the figure that stood taunting him. "Enough!" Viperax roared, his voice shaking with fury. He could feel the power building within him, the earth itself responding to his call. He raised his arms, summoning the raw energy of his ultimate skill.
"Tectonic Tempest!" he shouted, the words carrying the weight of his anger and determination.
