Chapter 6 - Crest Knight

The path to the town was usually not that dangerous in any way... most of the time.

Unfortunately for Raziel and Tsukasa, goblins had suddenly appeared out of nowhere and ambushed them.

"Watch out!"

Raziel leaped towards Tsukasa's side, slashing his iron sword towards an incoming goblin. Tsukasa didn't seem worried at all, instead, she also started to help Raziel using her magic.

"Water Bullet!" She chanted as several 5-inch cylindrical-shaped liquids started to form in the air, then blasting towards their ambushers.

"Dear, I think you're forgetting that I can defend myself," Tsukasa gave her usual mischievous, teasing smile.

"My mistake," Raziel chuckled. "Let's finish this already."

Raziel pointed his sword towards the gnarling group of goblins.

"System Call: Group Scan."

Raziel used the ability on the goblins. It was an advanced form of its basic form which was useful for scanning a large number of creatures at once. It showed the range of their stats, making it easier for Raziel not to scan them all one by one.

The abilities of could only be used by people with a unique source, these were typically called 'rune orbs.' At first, Raziel thought that rune orbs were very rare, but he soon found out that he was just a bumpkin that didn't know anything.

Rune orbs were actually more uncommon and were classified into different grades, ranging from low, mid, high, and ultimate. Rune orbs were called the armaments of the gods that fell from heaven, mixing them into the mortal world. They would fuse into nature, and once someone worthy came to retrieve them, they would fuse with that person and give it the ability to wield its power.

Of course, that was not all it could do. Once mastered, the rune orbs within them could form into different unique shapes, whether it was weapons, beasts, or become a very element itself.

Raziel had a mysterious and powerful rune orb fused within him that he thought he must have fused with in the past, while Tsukasa had her own as well, unfortunately, both of them couldn't know what their rune orb source was. This was because the wielder had to say the name of its rune orb in order to have the ability to wield its true power.

And with Raziel, because he had lost his important memories of the past, he couldn't even remember the name of his rune orb. He could check his own stats, but he wouldn't be able to know his rune orb's name. Tsukasa had never shown him her stats before. Raziel didn't really mind it since he didn't want to snoop around too much.

...

After Raziel had measured their remaining vitality, he smiled and started to chant.

"Weapon Enchant: Sharpness." Raziel used an auxiliary-type spell to make his sword sharper, it was one of his favorite auxiliary-type spells, helping him pierce or cut into anything much easier. Because of the inability to use

"Hyup!" He leaped towards the group of goblins, and with one slash, beheaded every single one of them. The goblin's heads flew, blood flying out in the air, spilling everywhere. Luckily for Raziel, he had already leaped away while Tsukasa was just watching from the sidelines.

"Dear, we should hurry towards the town before any more monsters come. Goblins usually hunt in groups, there would surely be more of them nearby," she explained. Although she knew she and Raziel could handle it, she didn't want to waste any more time. The sun would set soon and dangerous creatures loved to come out at night.

"Alright," he slashed his sword downward to clean the blood off then placed it back into its sheath.

Continuing their journey, the two soon reached their destination, a bustling town surrounded by tall stone walls. It seemed safe and secure enough to guard itself against bandits.

"We're finally here," Raziel sighed. "We should head towards the inn first and book a room to stay in for the night, then tomorrow, we could buy supplies and head back the next day."

Tsukasa seemed to like the plan and nodded. Usually, Raziel only spent two days in town, but since Tsukasa was with him, he wanted her to have some time to look around and explore.

The town's inn was large and simple, built with wood and stone in several parts, Raziel had stayed here many times in the past. The two of them entered and was greeted by several customers familiar with Raziel, as well as the owner of the inn, Lilibeth.

"Yo," the tomboy middle-aged woman, Lilibeth, greeted them.

"One room, two nights." Raziel didn't feel like conversing with this woman.

"Boy, are you still complaining about that time?" asked Lilibeth.

Tsukasa's eyes shone in interest. "About that time?"

"Oh, Tsukasa! Long time no see." the middle-aged woman greeted and continued. "You see, your partner here had a little trouble in the hot springs with some ladies," she snickered.

"Stop making it sound weird! Tsukasa, don't trust her, she tricked me."

"Technically, I didn't. Not my fault you seemed like a lost little lady. What are you gonna do about it, squirt?"

"You!" Raziel clenched his teeth in anger. He knew that the inn lady was half-lying, although his appearance was somewhat feminine due to his previously long hair and blooming appearance, it was not to the point that one would mistake him for a girl. He had obvious signs of masculinity. Right?

"Pfft," Tsukasa giggled. "I didn't know you were a peeping tom, dear."

"Ugh." Raziel suddenly felt the energy to argue leave his body, unwilling to argue with Tsukasa.

"Can we just get our room already?" He complained.

"Alright, that should be enough for now, squirt. Here's the key to your room. Make sure you don't start going into the girl's hot spring area again," she teased, making Raziel really feel like teaching this inn lady a lesson.

Before he could retort, however, Tsukasa pulled him by the hand, heading towards their room. "I think that was enough for now, dear."

Raziel didn't say anything and only sighed. What would he ever do without Tsukasa?

He and Tsukasa had been together for more than a year now. Although they had strange circumstances, the two of them had always taken care of each other. He knew Tsukasa hid a lot of secrets, but he was willing to accept whatever it was when the time came to reveal them.

He looked at Tsukasa who was on the balcony, staring at the bright, round, moon. Her appearance was so serene, with the light of the moon bathing her in its light.

Raziel stepped outside on the balcony as well and leaned on the railing, and looked up to the sky as well.

"Tsukasa, do you have a dream?" He asked, not taking his eyes off the skies.

"A dream?" She pondered and shook her head. "I don't have one."

"Well, I do," he paused for a second and continued. "I want to become a Crest Knight!"

Tsukasa was immediately caught off-guard, "A Crest Knight? Dear, Crest Knights are just a legend."

"Crest Knights are legends, not legends!" Raziel enthusiastically explained.

(A/N: He was saying that they are 'legends' as in the heroic sense, and not legends as is 'not-real or something like stories' in case you didn't understand, lmao.)

Tsukasa sighed but didn't say anything else, however, Raziel could feel something different about her.

"Well, if you wanna become the first Crest Knight since the Ancient Era, then I'm rooting for you, dear." Tsukasa kissed his cheek and went back inside, leaving the pondering Raziel.

"First Crest Knight since the Ancient Era...?" Suddenly, he felt that Tsukasa became even more mysterious.
