Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: Ken vs Cra [Part 1]

Zad looked over at the innkeeper to ask about what was happening only to see his face in complete chaos. From seeing that he knew for sure something was up with Cra. In a worried tone, he said

"You don't look so good sir, is something wrong?!"

"That glow... it's dangerous. Your friend could potentially be in a lot of trouble there..."

"What? It's that bad??"

"Only one thing comes to mind when looking at his fists. It's likely using mana to enhance his own speed and strength. Your friend did it earlier when kicking Cra. However, that was only a short burst of mana timed perfectly to make sure none of it went to waste."

"But how comes I wasn't able to see it glow or anything like that before?"

"That's simply because your friend was able to control it well, having it not show is preferable since if it does that means your using more mana than you can control."

"Can that be considered as a bad thing though, it's making him stronger isn't it?"

"You really don't know anything do you kid... Be sure to remember what I'm telling you since if you want to keep hanging around with that boy, you'll need to use this advice to become stronger."

"Of course, I'll remember."

"Then I'll tell you, allowing your mana leak like that can be treated as a double-edged sword, if you were to think about the positives for it one would be the tremendous amount of power you can gain, but it comes at a great cost. By using those attacks that you can't control properly, it takes a big toll on your body and causes irreversible damage. In short, it's a large increase in power but for a limited amount of time."

"Why would he do something as stupid as that!?"

"I wouldn't be too sure about that, but it seems like he doesn't want to lose."

Ken and Cra stood across from each other. People were unsure who was going to make the first move. Ken looked concerned but now knew that this battle wasn't going to end well.

"You do know the aftereffects of using that kind of power right."

"It doesn't matter what happens as long as I beat you."

Ken took a deep breath and raised his voice, addressing the crowd.

"You all better take as many steps back as you can, things are about to get messy."

Everyone either ran back as far as they could or left the area afraid of what was about to occur. Zad and the innkeeper watched from a close distance but made sure to not get in the way.

Once again in the middle of the street, Cra charged at Ken, but this time it was different. Before Ken had any time to read the enemies movements; the fist was already next to his face about to hit him. Ken infused mana into his right hand and raised it to block the attack with the palm of his hand, giving Cra no opportunity to use his other arm Ken used his other hand to blast him with wind magic pushing them both back to the edge of the street.

"What happened to that cocky attitude of yours kid don't tell me you're starting to get cold feet now you've seen my true power."

"Does this guy ever shut up..."

Zad stood there far away from the battle he held the sword on his back, wanting to rush in and assist Ken, but he couldn't get himself to move. This fear he was feeling, wasn't from the enemy, but from getting in Ken's way and being useless. The innkeeper placed his hand on Zad's shoulder and said

"You'd best not interrupt now it still looks like your friend over there still has something up his sleeve."

Zad decided to believe in the innkeeper's words and let go of his weapon. They both looked at Ken while he began to undergo a slight change. The ground near him began to shake as blue sparks started to appear around him. After a few seconds, there was a burst of lightning that came from Ken. His body became coated in electricity, and his hair spiked backwards. Ken looked at Cra and said

"I wanted to refrain from using my lightning magic since it can be quite harmful to my opponent, but I suppose that doesn't matter anymore."
