What's beneath the ground?

The color of the smoke is a light blue.
One glance and it's eerily odd.

The already barely holding ground surface collapses completely.
The barren ground below has long been devoured cleanly by the ants.
No one knows how many meters they've gnawed downwards.
It was assumed that this collapse would be a straight drop of hundreds of meters.
