I was pacing inside my office at the headquarters, one hand pressed against my temple.
It had been two weeks since Trixy was taken—and still no sign of her.
Two weeks of sleepless nights.
Two weeks of empty leads.
Two weeks of slowly losing my mind.
Every hour that passed made my chest feel heavier, my thoughts darker.
I couldn't think straight anymore.
Tok, tok.
"Come in," I said, my voice low and tired.
The door opened, and Ryker stepped inside. His face said everything before he even spoke. Another dead end. He walked toward me and stopped by my desk.
"Any update?" I asked, trying to sound calm though I already knew the answer.
He shook his head. "I tried tracing the number that called you—the kidnappers—but it's gone cold. Whoever they are, they know what they're doing. They covered their tracks completely."
