CHAPTER 210
Calixta straightened slowly, her breath sharp in her throat. The frozen woman on the loveseat looked like she had been carved from glass, lips still parted in the ghost of a laugh. Calixta tore her eyes away, fixing them on the figure seated on the sofa.
"Why are you here?" she asked, voice low and edged with warning.
She almost followed it with "How—" How did you find me? She swallowed the question. It was pointless. Aradria always knew. The Coven Queen had an entire kingdom of shadows and whispers at her disposal; she had long accepted she could never hide from her.
Instead, she snapped her attention back to the paralyzed woman. "What did you do to her?" she demanded.
Worry finally pushed her into motion. Calixta strode toward the door, the sharp click of her heels slicing through the eerie stillness in the room.
