Chapter 5 - "Sing to me"

I opened the door to find a young man sitting at a table. He was studying while munching on a danish. When he heard me step in his pale blue eyes lifted. his ash blond hair a mess. "You sure took a while. Now come sit. I want you to sing to me."

"Sing?" I asked as I sat down.

"Yes, do you not know how? I demanded to the assigning commander that he'd send a girl who can sing!" He glared.

"Oh, uh. I can try." I stumbled. What a brat. "To the wind, to the clouds, I sing, my song. To the birds, to the sea, please come back to me..." I managed to sing a portion of the song before he cut me off.

"Alright, now stop. Do you know Schrodinger's box theory?"

"No?"

"Do you know anything about Boolean Pythagorean Triples?"

"No."

"Please tell me you at least know how to spar?"

"Yes, my lord."

"Do you know what my glass turning silver means?"

"Yes sir." I coughed.

"Do you know my name?" His face screamed cocky, I already didn't like him.

"Yes... Samuel. Sir." I held his gaze. a few minutes go by, as we seem to dare the other to look away first.

Finally, he leans back again. "Good. At least you know that much. Seeing as you cannot help me study, you shall choose to sit in that chair and watch, or stay outside. Your choice." I sighed. Seeing as there was a window, I figured staying in the room would be better. I watched him work. At least he had concentration, he went at it for hours at a time.

A few days go by. I don't do much, but he uses me as a sparring partner. Unfortunately, he seems to be a little better than me. Oh how I'd love to beat him. Today, however, we'd not be sparring. Today was my first event as his 'maid'. He was invited to his second cousin's dinner party. He groaned about it, but I don't know why. It's not like he had to do much. The carriage arrived and he sat inside, although I had to ride on an outside seat to watch behind us. I just started to relax when we stopped. I looked ahead and saw a large mansion. The king's niece's place alright. He went ahead first with a knight, and I followed.
